face drooping with migraines

workshy · 15/01/2012 18:15

is this normal?

I haven't had a migraine since I was last pregnant so 8 years ago not pregnant now

think I have one now as the pain feels the same but my eye is closing and my face feels a bit like when you are just getting the feeling back after having a filling

as I was leaving work (sent home sick) I was lovingly told I looked like I was having a stroke -pretty sure I'm not btw

is this just a migraine and if so when will it stop?????

I don't have migraines so I wouldn't know, but you should really see your GP about this just in case you are having mini-strokes or there is something else going on.

OnlyANinja · 15/01/2012 18:18

Since you don't know what a stroke feels like you can't be sure that you are not having a small one - call NHS direct right now.

OnlyANinja · 15/01/2012 18:19

My aunt had a major stroke aged 33 - in the months leading up she had recurring migraines that in retrospect were almost certainly mini-strokes.

Don't assume you are too young.

It's probably nothing to worry about but you should make certain of that.

workshy · 15/01/2012 18:22

shall ring NHS

You need to get this checked out. It's probably nothing, but it could be a mini-stroke. Even babies can have strokes, it's not just an old age thing at all. Even if it is a stroke, you will probably be fine, but the faster they are treated the less likely you are to have long-term effects. Seriously, just go, I know it's rubbish to lose an evening but this could be urgent.

OnlyANinja · 15/01/2012 18:23

Good luck - hope they have some advice as to what you can do to feel better (and reassurance that it's nothing serious).

OddBoots · 15/01/2012 18:25

I agree with what's been said here, I'm glad you are getting it checked.

hippoCritt · 15/01/2012 18:26

Someone else just to say ring NHS direct, I think you need professional advice, good luck

workshy · 15/01/2012 18:37

they are ringing me back so I guess they don't think it's too serious

it could also be bells palsy - a severe headache is one of the signs, and a side of your face freezes so the other looks like its drooping.

OddBoots · 15/01/2012 22:39

Did they call back?

workshy · 15/01/2012 23:47

yes sorry -should have updated

they rang, said it's most likely migraine -not an uncommon symptom apparently (and I have been asleep for a couple of hours which also fits)

they gave me some other symptoms to look out for and have told me to make an appointment with my GP

Thanks for updating. Glad they don't think it's something to worry about. I hope your GP is able to confirm migraine.

SparkleRainbow · 16/01/2012 13:25

workshy, ask your gp for a referral to have a mri of your brain, just to be on the safe side. My gp did this for me, when started getting mirgraines for the first time after dc3...when I was 38, and had never ever had one before.

Rubysmommy · 16/01/2012 13:28

Just to say that I get this with migraines - I also get pins and needles in one hand along with my speech going funny. I've been checked by Drs and it's just migraine. But like the others have said, it's always worth checking.

SparkleRainbow · 16/01/2012 13:37

Ooo pins and needles too, not fun. I do get funny speech, even for 48 hrs afterwards I lose particular words from my vocab, and have to resort to word association or mini charades which dh find very funny.

MadameCastafiore · 16/01/2012 13:37

I get the same as Rubysmommy - had MRI scan and I have had a mini stroke at some point in my life but what was happening was just down to migraine.

SparkleRainbow · 16/01/2012 13:46

Is the history of a mini stroke made migraines more likely or is it just a coincidence sorry op, for the post heist, but am interested.

Catsmamma · 16/01/2012 13:46

I get the speech thing, I have to try and enunciate properly and often forget words completely, and simply cannot say them, one memorable moment being me supervising supper with a migraine "get the, um, ur, bottle...white lid bottle, gungey top, red,.....with chips, not brown" before collapsing in a heap of tears cos I could not say ketchup or sauce although I could see the words in my head.

Doesn't happen all the time though, but it is damned scary.

SparkleRainbow · 16/01/2012 13:49

I had to do a similar description of the "table" last week, very very scary.

Flisspaps · 16/01/2012 13:50

I get the drooping (usually just one eye) and the forgetting-speech thing. It's always in conjunction with an aura and a need to sleep though so I know it's a migraine.
