my 9 month old dd2 found the pot AND managed to get the lid off, found her with her hands covered, don't know if she's eaten any

doesn't it say on the pot?

Whizzz · 16/01/2006 21:10

I doubt it - but check the label. I would have thought the smell / taste of it would prevent much being swallowed - certainly not enough to cause any harm.

Rhubarb · 16/01/2006 21:11

Does her breath smell of Vicks????

zephyrcat · 16/01/2006 21:12

Be careful with her eyes - even after you've washed her... it'll sting like mad!

Marina · 16/01/2006 21:12

No, trinityrocks. Its main ingredients are camphor and eucalyptus oils, and the carrying agent is pretty much vaseline. If she has eaten some, she

  1. might be feeling a bit sore round the lips and mouth
  2. won't do it again in a hurry Ring NHS Direct to be sure. I rang them once in a panic after ds consumed a quantity of sudocrem and I swear I could hear muffled sniggering at the other end of the line. Don't worry. If it is safe to apply to adult and child skins, it is not seriously toxic for a baby to scoff a small amount. Just like sudocrem really

Oh god yes ZC, her eyes. I think you'd know about that by now TR!

picnikel · 16/01/2006 21:15

Googled it! Don't want to freak you out but found this .
TBH I doubt she'd have eaten it but maybe give NHS direct a ring??

Rhubarb · 16/01/2006 21:20

Whoa! That's heavy!

Rhubarb · 16/01/2006 21:20

Think you'd smell it on her breath though.

zephyrcat · 16/01/2006 21:23

I remember reading something on here ages ago about vicks and convulsions but couldn't remember the details or the age so didn't want to give wrong info and scare you. I'd ring NHS line just to be 100% sure.... hope she's ok x

picnikel · 16/01/2006 21:25

yes her breath would smell of it I expect. I had no idea it could be that toxic, though - makes you think!!!

zephyrcat · 16/01/2006 21:33

How is she/you tr? Have you managed to speak to someone?

CaptainDippy · 16/01/2006 21:49

Is everything ok???? Eating a tiny bit is ok - wouldmaybe make little one feel a bit sick and funny round the mouth - but you would have to eat quite a lot to cause convulsions - the body has amazing ways of coping with these things - Please let us know what happens!!

She's fine, other than having not much sleep cos of her cold,I put a bit on my lips and it is foul so I don't think she actually ATE much at all, if any. Sorry I didn't post back last night but her cold is just making her soooo grumpy. I phoned my friend who is a doctor and he said it would have to be at least an entire jar to be a problem. The jar was less then half empty and she had her fingers covered with blobs and I think that was all that was missing really, the amount that was on her fingers.
Thanks for your kind replies
