Anyone know anything about histology reports?

I had surgery in October for Endometriosis (I've had Endo for years and had surgery before) whilst still in hospital the surgeon came to see me and showed me the images from the laparoscopy and confirmed that they had removed the endometrial tissue.

I went to the GP's yesterday to discuss something else and she told me that they had recently received the histology report from the hospital. Apparently after the surgery the tissue was sent for analysis and it is not endo tissue. She asked when my next appt with the hospital is (it's next week) as the surgeon will discuss it with me then. I asked if it was anything I should worry about but received no reassurance - he just said that the hospital will speak to me next week.

The report was on her screen turned towards me as she spoke and I could make out the odd word including granulation and tuberculosis.

At the time I was confused (I thought TB was a lung disease) and running late to collect DS2 from school but I came home and have worried none stop.

Has anyone got any experience of histology reports and could understand any of it or does anyone know if it's even possible to get TB in your abdomen?? Sorry it's all very vague Confused

you can get TB anywhere and the good news is if it is not in your lung then you won't pass it to friends or family and is perfectly treatable,I had a neice who had TB in one of her legs and it never really affected her.

Thank you lily. Trying really hard to stop myself googling as I know I'll end up with worse case scenarios!

It's going to be a long wait until Tuesday to get the proper results I think.

Oooh good point Footle, I was in such a flap on Tuesday I didn't think of that. Hopefully that means it's nothing to worrk about. Thanks both for your replies. Sometimes you just need someone to be rational Smile

All tissue samples taken are sent off for histology. If there is no suspicion of any cancer they are processed more slowly because anything that is suspected to be abnormal will be prioritized. That us why your results took so long.
The report itself will often describe the appearance of the tissue and give a list of things it looks a bit like. Lots of different things can cause granulation and tuberculosis would be on this list, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily a likely cause in your particular case.
Reports also sometimes lost things that are NOT thought to be associated with what is seen.
So- you really can't tell anything from a few words without the context of the full report. And your GP can't make a full assessment because they didn't perform the surgery, so don't know exactly how things looked.

Thanks everyone. I have seen the full histology report today and the report was produced on 13 October (2 days after my surgery). According to the report there is no convincing evidence of Endometriosis but the "possibility of tuberculsosis should be considered and excluded clinically along with other causes for a granulomatous inflammatory reaction".

I saw the consultant today and he disagrees with the report as he is sure I have Endometriosis and does not think I need further tests.

I'm now confused again Confused
