Hate it hate it Hate it
I am sure they would have invented a device better than a metak duck beak and a lolly stick if it was a test fot XY.
HELP calm my anxiety, right now thinking of cancelling...

Do not cancel. I hate it too, but I went and it was quick and ok. You have to go and you know it. Smile

will go but under duress!

Last time the nurse didn't get a clean sample and I had to go back twice!

It's horrible when that happens but they have to get it right. What time is your appointment?

DamselInDisarray · 12/01/2012 14:36

I've got one next week. I'm dreading it. It's always agonising getting the speculum in. I shall be taking painkillers beforehand and gritting my teeth.

DamselInDisarray · 12/01/2012 14:37

Note: it won't be agonising for you as: (a) your anatomy is probably more sensible than mine and (b) I have a stupidly low pain threshold.
Yours will go swimmingly.

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2012 14:38

Don't forget to do the MN 'knicker hiding'. Grin

I used to feel anxious too after some not very nice experiences. Talk to the nurse about your fear and hopefully they will be nice and gentle with you. listen to some music in earphones if that helps to relax you and remember its over very quickly. good luck

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2012 11:57

violathing. have you been yet?

violathing · 13/01/2012 12:50

my appt is after work @ 5:20pm so I can worry about it all day. I will just have enough time to go home first and have a shower so I smell nice and fragrant.
It is the worst thing....

Our surgery stopped using those vile lolly sticks a few years ago, now it's a sort of plastic brush which they use and a plastic 'cone' speculum to put in position. It's far less uncomfortable and the cell capture I'd better too apparently.
Hope it goes well, you know you're doing the right thing Smile

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2012 18:29

Are you ok? Is it all over violathing?

violathing · 14/01/2012 06:54

yes all over - thank goodness

It did hurt a bit when the device was inserted but grin and bear it. I also have slight bleeding which I guess is normal and will pass

Well done. If it's anything like round here you should get your letter next week. Smile

Bunbaker · 14/01/2012 12:43

I find that these days it is the practice nurse that does smear tests. As they do them so often they are used to doing them and are far more gentle than a doctor who only does them occasionally.
