Incontinence issues

After having children (youngest is 18 so some time ago) I did my pelvic floor exercises like anyone else and never had any problem. Maybe needed to concentrate a bit more when bouncing on a trampoline or (sometimes) when about to sneeze but that was it.

Twice recently I have been travelling home in the evening and found that I have wet myself en route. Nothing dramatic, haven't felt any sudden loss of control, just found that my underwear and trousers were wet when I got home. Eg last time had been to an evening meeting, drank one cup of coffee and a couple of glasses of water but felt no need to go to the loo before setting off on the 40min tube journey home and no discomfort whilst I was travelling. Got home to find my pants and trousers wet.

Obviously not happy about this. Why would this be happening? Restarting pelvic floor exercises is a no brainer but should I be thinking of anything else? Any why would it happen sometimes but not others?

It doesn't sound like stress incontinence so I think the PF exercises wouldn't have an effect.

I have had this for years and told it was an 'irritable bladder'. GP now suspects I have fibroids (due to other symptoms)...and this peeing myself is linked to that.

Worth a trip to the doc Smile

thanks Crazynanna
I did have fibroids when I was pregnant with DD2 (well, still have them obviously but they grew and were painful whilst I was pregnant and subsided after).

Time to phone the doc then...

Yes the doc says the pressure from a fibroid can irritate the bladder.

I have noticed I pee my knickers more pre period.

Good luck Smile

ah - I'd just about made the pre period connection too.
thanks!

I thinks it's when the hormonal surge makes the fibroid swell or something.

Are your periods hellish?

nothappyabouthis · 12/01/2012 15:13

they had been lot heavier recently. I'm 48 so I'm expecting things to start changing a bit - just didn't expect it to be this :(
