What is my youngest DD going to get next? She has no label as such, but has severe delay development. We are seen by various hospitals for various reasons, eyes, hearing, development, teeth (fused).

She has a stye on her left eye that turned into a cyst. Went to doctors but referred to hospital to have it drained but they decided to treat it with anti-biotics instead (nice of them to tell me after I waited 2 1/2 hours to be seen). Needless to say 5 weeks later the cyst (core) is still there that will need to be surgically removed from the inside.

On her right eye the weekend before last she developed another stye that turned rapidly into another cyst. Went to doctors instead of hospital as the hospital were only going to give me anti-biotics anyway. She wasn't able to go to nursery (I work part-time) as she needed to be on the anti-biotics 48 hours. On Friday the cyst popped (very nasty!) and was back at doctor's who told me to give her steam baths and to carry on bathing her eye with hot water. It is still crusty, weeping, but no-one wants to do anything to help it. She doesn't look great (although she is beautiful to me) as she has a red spot on her right eye (left over cyst) and a big, yellow-headed, red spot on her right eye which is still the cyst.

Now, since yesterday she has developed a round (size of 10 pence piece) dry patch on her forehead. It is definitely not her hair causing this - she doesn't have much and what she does have is further back on her head) but now I am thinking that perhaps it is a form of eczema. Her sister and brother don't have asthma or eczema although her father does have asthma and I know that asthma and eczema can follow in families. She is at nursery today but am wondering whether I should take her to the doctors tonight or if I should wait.

I seem to spend my whole time at the doctors for one thing or another and I dont want them thinking I am a worried mother (although she is my third child and I think I know when to worry and when not to worry).

Just don't want this red dry patch getting any worse. Anyone got any suggestions of what it might be or what I could use to help clear it up?

I would go to the docs. My ds developed a 10p sized patch on his arm a few weeks ago and then it started growing and weeping. It turned out to be impetigo and anti biotics were needed. Trust your instincts and don't give two hoots for whether people think you're neurotic.

poor you.
It could be eczema. Have you changed her soap or shampoo lately?
What ever it is - go to the doctor. Stuff them if they think you are a worried mother, you are, and there is nothing wrong with that!
If it is eczema (my ds1 has it,) it is better they prescribe you some cream or whatever for it. If you just get something from the chemist, you could make it worse.

I think I will take her. Have never heard of impetigo and wouldn't know what it looks like. Is it catching? The only reason I ask is that she has just started nursery (long story - my child care went pear-shaped) and I was wondering whether it is something that you can catch from another child or where you get it from, or whether it is something you just develop.

I have not changed shampoo, fabric conditioner, etc.

She did have her MMR booster last Friday and when I asked what reactions, if any, she might get they did mention perhaps a rash, but this is not a rash, this is a dry rough spot.

Will take her to doctors for advice.

Yes Bumbly, impetigo is VERY contagious and definately a reason to keep children off nursery with. But impetigo does weep a clear fluid and then crust over before weeping again. Hopefully it won't be that, but it's easily treated if it is. Better to catch it early though.
