Can you help me interpret blood results/explain my headspin symptoms?

I've been having blood tests to try to pin down why I am so tired and why my head spins literally every time I stand up. It's got to the point where I avoid bending down just to avoid the headspin on the way up.

I was slightly anaemic and that's been treated - the levels are normal now. I'm also slightly low in vit D but that's also being treated. The thing that comes up at every test over the past few months is that I have:

macrocytic blood (large cells as I understand it)
High platelet count
High red blood cell count.

The drs have focused on the iron etc but not the other stuff and I'm trying to understand why my iron levels are now normal but my head is still spinning. This has been going on for 6 months now and I do feel quite vulnerable when alone with the DCs because sometimes I feel as though I am going to faint just from the action of standing up.

How's your blood pressure? Have they tested it standing and sitting?

margoandjerry · 10/01/2012 23:23

That's a good point. It is usually normal - but sometimes goes a bit low. 90/50 when I was pg which was murder. The last time they tested me it was spot-on normal but I will get them to test me again standing and sitting.

I'm getting a bit of the old "40 something mother says she tired" roll-eyes from the surgery but the headspin thing is definitely not right.

Really would keep going back, headspin not right, I've had almost a year of health problems, and have defiantly learnt to trust my instincts.

If you don't feel well and are getting Headspins keep going back until they diagnose it.

Hi Margo, because of medical conditions I have I get postural hypotension which is when my blood pressure drops when I stand up/go up stairs/stand in shower etc. I think I have aot of the usual symptoms which are: feeling very dizzy, I get the need to bend over although bending usually makes it worse!, I sometimes get tunnel vision and it feels like I can't hear and everything is fuzzy and I also get 'coathanger' pain which is pain down the neck and across the tops of your shoulders. I take fludrocortisone for it and have been given various exercises to do to get the blood flowing again. I also sleep with my head up on a few pillows. If I am even slightly dehydrated I am much worse. Like largeglass said, it may be worth getting your blood pressure checked whilst standing and sitting. Low blood pressure can also make you really really tired, I'm not sure if thats one of your symtpoms too?x

Blood pressure is definitely something to get checked.

I get head spinny when hungry. For me, it is insulin resistence linked to PCOS. I am better when I keep my sugar levels stable (hungry after a meal of meat and veg=stomach rumbles, hungry after i last ate a chocolate bar=headspinning).

Thanks for the advice. Dr checked blood pressure sitting and standing and it wasn't the cause of the problem - was 108/70 and didn't vary much on sitting/standing. But she's referred me for an ECG. If still no answers will ask for further referal. thanks for advice, everyone.

Is it possibly something to do with your ears? Do they need syringing? Go for the bp first, but if it's a balance thing, it could be ears, or immune system?
