Bursitis and Pelvic Pain

Anyone have any advice on dealing with bursitis in the hips? I've had it for a little while but thought I was managing it adequately with anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen) but it has been particularly bothersome lately. I run about 30 - 40k week and I'm aware that can exacerbate it. I'm only 35 so not quite ready to hang up my sneakers just yet. It seemed to come on suddenly at about the same time I fractured a couple of bones in my pelvis and has never really gone away since then. Also have osteitis pubis which I think is causing this constant dull-ache in the pelvic area. I have an orthopaedist whom I saw regularly right after the fracture but haven't been there for a while as he wasn't particularly helpful and not really sure where else to turn? Would physio be able to help with this sort of thing? I have been to physio but they didn't inspire a lot of confidence as they told me I had a muscle strain (was actually a double fracture). It's a bit embarrassing because of the location iykwim.

Can you ask Drs for a referral for a ultrasound to see if a cortisone injection would be of any use?

I have had steroid injections at the GP, and if you need another they have to refer you to an Orthopod, but it does give relief.

I was also given great exercises to stretch the mscles around the pelvic girdle as I get "Snapping hip" which causes the bursitis.

I also get Meralgia Paraesthetica (trapped nerve) and the 2 pains can get confused (aftermath of hip surgeries) so it may be worth having an MRI or similar to make sure everything is in correct place, no impingements or anything that can be corrected?

Good luck.

Thanks for your replies Smile. I wondered about cortisone injections. Will have to go back to orthopaedist I think and ask for another MRI as the AIs don't seem to be cutting it any more and I think it's actually getting worse. Bother.

YY to stretching. I was advised to do that but keep forgetting and it definitely did help.

Thanks again...
