Wisdom tooth extraction didn't go well :-(

Hi. Wondering if anyone can help. On Friday I had a top wisdom tooth extracted which was broken. It took an hour and a half to remove as the tooth broke and the dentist couldn't get a hold of the root. It was a pretty traumatic experience and the pain seems to have lessened over the days along with with the swelling. My main concern is that I can't open my jaw any wider than my finger and the dentist has said my jaw has gone into spasm. Has anyone had any experience of this.

That's sounds pretty awful, but if the pain and swelling are going down then you are on the way to recovery.

If I were in your shoes (veteran of several extractions and with dodgy adrenals to boot) I would be sending a slave out for some arnica tablets about now and then taking one an hour for the rest of the day.

Hopefully that will deal with the physical trauma, which may be the reason your jaw is acting up.

See how you go

Oh god yes,I had this after operation to remove tonsils. Horrible. You poor thing. Don't think it lasted more than a day or two, years ago now but can still remember the moment it kicked in-I freaked!

I also have a hole in my top wisdom tooth. I can feel it with my tongue. It has been there (getting bigger) for a few years and doesn't hurt, but, I really need to be brave and sort it out. I was close to booking dentist appointment. Before. I. read .your .post....Aghhhh!

Thanks - will try the Arnica and see what happens. Will try anything as it's so uncomfortable. On the plus side a liquid diet has its advantages.

Unfortunately I had a difficult extraction but you may find if you have one it will not be too bad.

For what it's worth Lady W I have had both my top wisdom teeth out at the dentist under LA - neither was impacted, which helped, but I didn't have a single twinge or need painkillers with either.

It's not my fave thing to do, but for a simple extraction there is nothing to fear and if you can feel the hole they might just fill. I lost mine because they were decaying up against the next tooth and they couldn't get in to fill.

Awww, you poor thing. Hope your jaw releases soon and FWIW, I had my 2 top wisdom teeth out yesterday and my jaw is still quite sore, so I'll join you in the sore gob club Grin.

Och, you poor thing, sorry it was so traumatic for you. Hope you heal soon.

ladyWinterfell - please go now and maybe you'll be able to get away with fillings. I was supposed to get a filling 2 years ago - was having a bad time and wussed out. Teeth were fine - it was only going to be a small filling. But over the last couple of months, I started getting pains. This developed into the worst toothache ever (tm) this weekend - I didn't sleep for 48 hours and was CRYING with pain, couldn't talk/eat/swallow. Got an emergency appointment and they found a huge abscess under one tooth. Took 2 hours of drilling and root canal stuff. They filled the tooth beside it and it took about 10 minutes.

I have learnt my lesson.
