Excessive sweating at night...?

Im going to go and see the dr about this, but not for a few weeks yet.

Have started having really bad night sweats, to the point im waking up several times a night, dripping wet and having to change bedding and bedwear. It started about 3 months ago but now seems to be getting worse Im pretty certain its not to do with temperature as I never really heat my house(unless its like -3 or something). Its driving me potty as Im having to get up and bath/rewash hair as i stink and am soaking in the mornings-thats alongside singlehandedly getting two boys and a toddler up and off to school! I dont take any meds other than lostrin20(contraception) and im only 27

Anyone had any experience of this?

Agree with others, but it could be the menopause. I had exactly the same symptoms and found out I was well into the menopause in my thirties. No history, no reason. Great news is 1 week of hrt and they went away.

cadburysgirl · 12/01/2012 00:20

hope you managed to see the dr.

My dad had terrible night sweats for a few months and it was non hodgkins lymphoma.

It could also be a number of non serious things. I get night sweats sometimes due to the medication i am on

Apparently menopausal night sweats and cancer causing night sweats are different and they don't sound menopausal.

I'm certainly no expert but my mum has just been diagnosed with cancer (terminal sadly) and she said these night sweats are a lot worse than menopausal hot flushes. I can't say what type of cancer she has as they've only identified the secondary lung cancer and don't know where the primary is but anyone who is suffering sheet and pj drenching night sweats please get checked out as a matter of urgency.

Whether it's hormonal or not it's definitely not normal and the cause needs identifying.

Good luck with that Stars....just read this!

Will be keeping everything crossed for you....
Best get it identified so that the proper treatment (if any) can be targeted!

Popbiscuit · 12/01/2012 17:08

Good luck Stars... hopefully it's nothing serious.

OneLieIn · 12/01/2012 22:19

Not to worry you stars. Menopausal hot flushes and night sweets can leave you (and did leave me) drenched. Soaking, sweat running off me like a sauna. It could be hormonal

God, I hope you're not worried by all this cancer talk on here

I had really bad night sweats, just as you describe, a few years ago. They lasted a few months. It turned out I had really high levels of prolactin (though this was before DD and I wasn't pregnant or breastfeeding so there was no obvious reason for this). I had just moved house and changed job. The GP monitored my hormone levels for a while and they gradually returned to normal. I've not (now 5 years on) had the same problem again.

[just want to point out that it might be some quite benign hormonal change and nothing serious - but do get it checked out asap]

Well had my dr appt today, he thoroughly checked me out, bp,listened to my chest/heart, all fine, felt my glands, palpated my abdomen, couldnt find any masses or anything out of the ordinary although my liver was tender(slightly strange as i dont really drink alcohol) he did bloods and ive got to do a urine sample and take back too.

He said its unlikely to be menopause as no history of perimenopause in the family-in fact the women in my family usually hit 50+ before having it. other than that he doesnt know why it could be, he just said they will call me back if the bloods/urine abnormal but if not carry on as usual and if its still happening in a few months then to go back and he'll send me for a ultrasound.
I feel pretty reassured that he has done what he can today so will await results and go from there.

He did mention something about thyroid causing sweats too.

If all of your bloods including esr are normal then that is great news. I would ask for a full print out and check every base has been covered, even by asking on here. Did he do a liver function test?

Good to hear results were reassuring. Did you have FSH/LH done as well?

starsintheireyes · 07/02/2012 21:56

Well the mystry continues.. repeat bloods were taken and I went back for a follow up today. My red cells are still enlarged...but Im not aneamic and I dont have a deficency of B12 either. The dr has taken yet more bloods, basically any that the other docter didnt do so shes looking at ESR and hormones as well as a few other things. Shes said she has no idea what this means so she is going to speak to a blood specialist and ring me next thurs when todays bloods are back and devise a plan of what to do next.
