Mild chest pains

I've been having intermittent mild shooting/stabbing-type chest pains for months and months now. I don't have any health problems I know about except depression and a tendency to anxiety - I did have ME for three years but don't have it any more. Anyone got any idea what they are??

Anyone?

Really when you have chest pains you HAVE to go to the doctor just in case. There is a possibility that you may be having cardiac spasms due to stress but you need to get checked out thoroughly. This is not one you should try to self diagnose. Please do go to the doctor who can at least rule out any serious problems.

I mentioned it to my GP about six months ago when I was there about DS2... he listened to my chest with a stethoscope and told me there was nothing wrong with me. I feel awkward going back now....

If you feel there is something wrong you shouldn't worry about feeling awkward. Also if you have chest pain I don't see how the doctor can rule out everything by simply listening to your chest. If you are worried just go back to the gp and have a chat, that is what the NHS is for.

you need to insist on areferrel to a cardiologist, as just listening to your chest cant diagnose or rule out many cardiac problems, do you have other symptoms, such as shortness of breath etc?
chances are its nothing but do go back to your gp.

I'm not being funny MOM, but could it be indigestion? I went to the docs with chest pain that was making it difficult for me to breathe, and she said that stress and anxiety was causing the indigestion and the pain. Sure enough, indigestion remedy and relaxation exercises sorted it out over time. Bear in mind that people have been admitted to hospital in an emergency with severe chest pain, that turned out to be indigestion - it really can be that painful.

Hope you get sorted, must be very worrying.

I was just going to say, gp should investigate even if only to rule-out things like indigestion.

I don't know, could it? It feels unlikely, but then I suppose it would, wouldn't it!! It's little sharp twinges, on the left hand side, high up under the top of the breast.... does it sound like anything you recognise?

Hmmm, my pain was in the centre of my chest, between the breasts. Maybe not then. But still, I do think it is worth going back.

Constant tension due to anxiety could well be at the root of it - I didn't realise just how many aches and pains I suffered until the root of my anxiety was resolved and the tension dissipated - I suddenly discovered that I could breathe in deeply, that my jaws didn't ache constantly (from clenching them), my shoulders stopped aching ... amazing what a difference it made!
