I need some practical help for my Mum

I can't do all this anymore. Mum had her hip replaced on 15th December and has done really well bless her but I am doing things like her washing, sorting her medication, bits of shopping, cleaning, taking to appointments, sorting out her bl**dy surgical stockings.
I have a 2 year old and a 7 year old with dyspraxia, , my DH was ill and signed off work last year, though loads better now, my house is in pieces (literally) fitting a downstair loo some Mum can come over and visit,I'm trying to start a small business to compensate for DH's loss of a days wages, I had flu the week before last and my Dad anounced last week (separated from my Mum ) that he has bowel cancer and is off to see the surgeon on Tuesday.
My brother is 100 miles away and about as much help as a chocolate teapot. I tried hard to set up Social Services help before she went in, which came to nothing. Tried a couple of agencies which were a disaster. I need a mother's help for my mother I think, any idea how I get one ? Excuse the whinge, I am just up to my eyes in trying to sort everything and have to go back to Mum's in a minute to sort these sodding stockings out once her washing is dry.

I would contact social services again, did the hospital refer her to them before she was discharged?

The other thing you could maybe do is advertise in the local press for someone to come in and help her, on a private basis?

ScummyMummy · 15/01/2006 16:31

Did social services assess her? They have a duty to do this if you ask them.

Kittypickle · 15/01/2006 16:41

Thank you both for replying. Social services did assess her before she left and I think they decided that she would be eligible but that they probably couldn't sort anything until after Christmas and that could stop her discharge (the Wed before), so I tried to sort something out with a private agency who were pretty useless.
A very very lovely friend of mine (who is also a MNetter) has just called about something else, listened to me moaning and has very kindly said that she will help out for a few weeks if my Mum is agreeable & my brother has said he will pay, so I am breathing a huge sigh of relief
