Hi all.

Not sure what to do. Have suffered endometriosis for 9 years, to varying degrees of severity. Last had laparoscopy and diathermy in Dec 2011. Came on my period yesterday and it is agony. Have been taking co-codamol all day and it hasn't really helped. Very very bad stomach pains. Don't know wheter to contact gynae A and E. I am really struggling. It is also unbearably painful when I pass wind, (TMI, sorry). DH will be at work tomo and I have to do school run with DS and pushchair, and just can't imagine how I will manange. Feel like A and E would think I was wasting time by going with period pains, but am in so much pain.

Have you had your appendix out?

SleepyCaz · 08/01/2012 18:53

No I haven't.

My appendix grumbled for months with my period (I guess trays when everything is a bit swollen). I ended up having my appendix out as an emergency on the first day of my period in the end, after what I thought was the worse period pain of my life. Is the pain one side or in the middle?

SleepyCaz · 08/01/2012 19:48

It's low down in the middle. So sore Sad

Is this your first period since your lap in December? If it is then it can be really quite grim. Not sure why but it happened to me. Have you tried something with anti-inflamms in rather than just co-codamol? Hope you are feeling a bit better today.

Sleepycaz

How are you feeling today?. Any further news?

Sounds like endo has reared its ugly head again. I would certainly contact the gynae dept who carried out the lap originally and asap.

Not unfortunately all that surprised to read there could be rectal involvement; I've had such pains as well (was diagnosed with endo around a decade ago) and it is more often than not related to endo as well.

They should have fully informed you as to the extent of the endo and where it is cited; endo can also have rectal and bladder involvement as well as being in the uterus, ovaries and on the intestines (some women who are diagnosed with IBS actually have endometriosis instead).

Was this a diagnostic lap, I ask this as sometimes lap surgery is done purely as a diagnostic procedure which then needs more surgery. If it was not diagnostic what were the surgeon's findings post operation?. You should have received a follow up appt to discuss the findings of the lap around 7-10 days post surgery.

You may well need to see another cons gynae surgeon as some gynaes are far better than others when it comes to treating endo cases. Your case certainly requires careful management. You need to find a surgeon with an up to date knowledge of endo; they;re not all great at treating and managing this particular disease. Ask them outright what their experience and success rate is in treating complex cases of endo.

You may want to look at www.enod.org.uk as this is an informative website.

www.endo.org.uk is the correct website; sorry about that.

Hi Attila

The lap was Jan 2011. It was diagnostic and included a D&C :( They found more endo then and removed the lesions with diathermy. Been TTC since and had an MC in May 2011.

Went to Gynae A&E in the end on Weds. Pain unbearable. They agreed it's endo, and gave me Mefenamic Acid and 30/800 cocodamol to take away. Only thing they can do, seeing as I am TTC and don't want any hormonal treatment (Coil, pill, implant etc... which have helped A LOT in the past).

Guess am just hoping to fallPG really soon, and then after I have another baby, go back to a hormonal treatment. Prob is, the longer I take to get PG, the worse the endo gets, making it harder to get PG.... :(

Thnaks for link and kind message :)

The only thing that helps my bad period pains is the drug naproxen. You can buy this over the counter in the uk in feminax ultra - blue packet.

i take mefanemic acid also. but i dont find it helps much, i sometimes take it with co codamol, which takes the edge of it.
My doc said to try taking the mefanemic acid before i come on.
I have started taking magnesium ok supplements and eve primrose oil.
have been doing this for 2 months solid and it is helping.
i used to be in agony going to the toilet.
p.s dont take mefenemic acid with ibroprofen.
