suffered bad gums for years, they occasionally swell up (at the lower front) and really 'itch'/very uncomfortable, only thing i have found that even remotely helps is swishing with boiling hot water with added salt. anyone else suffer with this, bloody nightmare when it flares up

Hi, there's the obvious paracetamol etc but have you tried corosodyl , might have spelt it wrong. You gargle with it.

Try the following:

  • use an electric toothbrush on both gums and teeth
  • use Corsodyl Daily Defence
  • consider moving to a different dentist if your current one isn't supportive/helpful/trying to get it sorted

Best of luck

thanks ladies, actually i changed my dentist yesterday as the other one retired. re corsodyl, i used to use it but it made my teeth go dark....side effect apparently if you use it for too long (doubt that happens with everyone but it did with me, lovely...). i will stick with the boiling hot water and salt. actually, i have found this works better at healing and soothes immediately, thanks though

paisleyII - have just seen a message on another thread from a dentist about Cordosyl - suggested not using it after using toothpaste as the detergent interacts with it and causes discolouration. So use it at another time. Amazing what you learn on here!

I am a chronic gingivitis sufferer what I find helps me is having the hygenist clean my teeth every 3 months, using an electric toothbrush. I have recently switched to the new oral B toothpaste and for me it is much better than corsdyl (which I did try for quite a long while).
I also find fruit juice is a really bad thing for me as the acid seems to make my gums more inflammed.

thanks ladies. lizcat - isn't it a nightmare at times. mine fortunately don't flare up often but sometimes suddenly. they are REALLY itchy at the moment. you just want to get some dental floss and REALLY press down imbetween your teeth which i never do but the ITCH, it is more than i can bare sometimes/at the moment. i find the best thing, although not working too well this time round, is rinsing with REALLY hot salt water. i will try the dental hygenist option. ta

corsydyl will stain your teeth, you must keep flossing, please see your hygienist. gingivitus is completely reversable.
