Hi Ladies!
anyone ever had a dental hygenist appointment? What do they do? I have recessive gums and constant sensitivity and its driving me mad! Going in an hour but not sure what to expect, would love some info if anyone has been! x

this isn't going to comfort you-they are quite thorough let's say in their cleaning -every cranny is probed and they make you feel like a naughty child- I went a few years ago and not since (thankfully my dentist always says my teeth are nice and clean) They will probably show you the best ways of cleaning and flossing. Good luck !

Please don't worry. They will have seen allsorts and they are there to help you keep your teeth and gums healthy. The man before me last time was having a cigarette in the car park before he went in.

You will come out squeaky clean. Grin

How did it go mummy?

Grumpystiltskin · 05/01/2012 21:37

Oh yikes, the patients who have a pre appointment fag. Boak. Absolutely gross & stinky & really unpleasant.

The idea behind the hygienist is that they show you how to clean your teeth perfectly, they then clean them for you and you go home and maintain the cleanliness. Simples. Rarely happens though sadly!!!

Thank everyone, she said that my recessive gums are not the result of gum disease! Yayyyyy!! Nothing too scary just an x ray which proved that my teeth are fine, going back in 10 days to get fitted for a night guard to help relax my jaw at night. X

That's great Mummy. I must say I have a v clenched jaw at night especially since being on ADs.

MummyGuyett · 07/01/2012 21:10

Apparently because I am clenching my jaw and my bite isn't perfect as I have a twisted tooth, it is putting pressure on my gums and the are recessing, it's a huge worry as you can replace teeth if they fall out but if your gums go there nothing to replace them, and I'm only 28!! I need them! Lol

Do those things you wear at night make you dribble everywhere do you think? i don't know if I could sleep with it on.

MummyGuyett · 07/01/2012 21:22

If it saves me from looking like wurzel gummidge ina few years time I'll do anything!! Lol, the dentist said its not the nicest thing but I'll deal! X
