Could someone please help me?
I am going out of my mind.
I had an MRI for my knee, blood tests had shown I am not pregnant. BUT it seems I was!!!! What do I do? Has the baby been harmed? The doc is really not clear....

I know a little bit about MRI, although not much about MRI and pregnancy.
My understanding is that they avoid MRI in the first trimester just because there's no evidence for its safety (or lack of). Also, I think they would try to avoid it throughout all of pregnancy if it's not essential. I think this is just caution based on there not being many studies.
I don't think it would have caused any harm. I'm not aware of any evidence showing that it can cause harm in pregnancy.
Sounds like the doctor is not being very helpful.
Also, congratulations!

The guidelines advise against MRI in the first trimester as it is the time any effect would be most likely, and there are various things that could cause harm to a developing embryo.
But your scan was on your knee (therefore the rest of you was outside the scanner and in less magnetic field etc), so the tiny risk is even smaller again.

Try not to worry about it, and enjoy your pregnancy.

I had one in my second trimester - on my abdomen - and that was actually because of the pregnancy. (and the pics were incredible - so clear and better than any ultrasound - but I digress) If it is safe enough for it to be done at 22 weeks that it was done without any mention of risks, then I can't imagine it will be all that more dangerous earlier on. As the posters above have said - they are cautious when they don't know for sure what the risks are, but I wouldn't worry.

I hope that is in some way reassuring.

I had an MRI on my abdomen when I was 23 weeks pregnant. Like the previous poster said the pictures were incredible.

DS was born 8 weeks premature but this was due to the problems the MRI was investigating NOT because of the MRI. He is absolutely fine.

Please try not to worry. It was on your knee so I would have thought any risk was tiny and congratulations!

I know someone who did research in MRI. They said that there is no risk in pregnancy. You get some lovely MRI images of the baby, they offered to do one on me but I didn't really want the long journey to the hospital.
