Dermatologist appointment

I have a flat brown disc shaped thing on my nose. Saw gp who has referred me to a dermatologist. I have looked at various websites and it doesnt appear to be skin cancer but I am really nervous about the appontment.
It is at 4 tomorrow. I also have a sebaceous cyst on my face, dr has said they dont do minor ops at the surgery anymore, would I be unreasonable to ask him about getting that removed too?

I don't think that's unreasonable at all. I had a thing on my ankle last year and as part of the appointment the dermatologist did a full body check to see if there was anything else problematic lurking anywhere, so he was up for the possibility that there was something he'd need to deal with in addition to the thing I'd been referred to him for. It was a lot more dignified than it sounds, BTW - I exposed bits of myself in sequence, IYSWIM. In fact, now I remember, I did ask about something else during my appointment. My thumb had suddenly swollen up and was bright red and very painful - I apologised for asking and as I had an 8 month old at the time I explained that it would be hard for me to sit in A&E for hours waiting to be seen. He had a look and referred me for an ultrasound. In the end he didn't need to do anything about the thumb - a large gobbet of pus erupted from under the nail than evening and it was all better. Sorry to go off track! No, not unreasonable. Yes, ask! Good luck and hope it's nothing.

Thank you, I am stressing only because it is on my face.

Well back from the appointment, he told me what it was but I cant remember Blush he then proceeded to freeze it off. So painful. I now have a red nose with a blister on it, my students are going to love this tomorrow. The sebaceous cyst, however, is considered cosmetic surgery so I have to pay.
Relieved it is over but wish my nose didn't hurt so much :)

Very glad it's nothing sinister! Bet it does hurt! Sorry your students might not be the most sympathetic.... Annoying about the sebaceous cyst. Personally, I think that even if it is 'cosmetic', the fact that it is on your face, should count for something on the NHS. Would you consider forking out to have it removed? Did he give any indication of how much it would cost? Well done! X

I can cover it up at the moment but was warned it will scab over, so I look forward to the extremely witty comments from the teenagers in my charge :) I will contact the skin clinic tomorrow and see what they say, it will be worth it as I am very conscious of it even though it is only small.
Thanks for the replies :)

Oh Sad. Is it worth going back to your GP and saying the cyst is starting to impact on your self-confidence? Any students making fun of it that you could quote? Not that I am suggesting they should or would, but it might be a bit of ammunition to get its removal seen as necessary enough to be done on the NHS? Sorry about the scab. DO NOT PICK AT IT!!!!! X
