DD2 had her preschool booster today and 2nd MMR. She is 3yrs & 6mo. I have been dreading this day for the past few months and it was as bad as I imagined. Had to restrain her, she was very distressed and arms hurt a lot. After a dose of Calpol she seems OK, tho I guess may dip again later.

I have, stupidly, been pouring over all posts on MMR and other Vaccines on MN and have found stories of children that have been damaged by vaccines. DD2 had all prev imms with no reaction at all.

I am absolutely petrified that she wil have problems from this, either now or over the next 3 weeks.

I feel sick with worry, literally. I know nobody can guarantee what the next few weeks will entail. But I would like to hear some ecnouraging stories....or if anybody had worries like I did and was proved wrong?

Thanks all.

Yes! You're post could have been written by me and countless others no doubt.

My dd2 had her combined MMR jab recently (insisted it would be the only one at the appointment).

Following her MMR jab, I became a helicopter parent. She slept in our room. I am not exaggerating when I say she was supervised by an adult for every minute of the day for the whole month following her MMR jab (she had it at the beginning of the month). I was constantly placing my hand on her forehead when she looked flushed, even though I knew it was caused by running around.

When we went out to toddler groups -God bless the other parents! When they asked me what was wrong, (being overprotective of lo) I explained that dd2 had her MMR jab x days ago and the other mums respectful withheld judgement, although some of their facial expressions were priceless (raised eyebrows etc).

She was ill a couple of times in that month, but whether it was because of the MMR, I don't know.

I can't predict the future, but I too have been pouring over posts and one thing I realise is prompt action. Hence why dd2 was sleeping next to me. If she were to have a convulsion, I wanted to be there to administer the paracetamol and take her to A&E ASAP if necessary. If I have any worries, and the surgery receptionist fobs me off (like she does) I will be straight to A&E, even if it turns out to be nothing serious. I have kept the vaccine box with the patient information leaflet, so if A&E staff say "nonsense", I can show them in black and white the MMR packaging and patient information leaflet, listing the possible side effects.

So far, my fears have been wholly unfounded. I now feel a little daft for reacting as I did, but I am no way ashamed nor embarrassed. I'm glad i did what i did, even though it seemed to others as being OTT. My other children have had the monovalent vaccines, and I gave the combined MMR reluctantly to dd2, due to lack of alternatives - the single vaccines my other children were given are either not available or no longer manufactured.
