Poor ds(15 months) has been poorly since Saturday- wheezing, v. high temps 38- 39.5, is only drinking breast milk occasionally, not eating etc. Took him to the doctors on Tuesday who put him on erythromycin. two days later still v. high temps -basically not gone below 38 all week and very sleepy and lethargic-not moved around at all- laid on me or sofa all day. Dr sent us to casualty yesterday. CXR showed some infection in his lung- O2 sats were borderline so they sent us home as he is on antibiotics.
Anyway- not happy with his condition today either as w/e approaches, but equally do not want to look like an over anxious mum ( baby no3 btw. had to reusu dd1 when she was 3 due to pneumonia so may be a bit paranoid)He is also rubbing his forehead an awful lot too-?headache?

What would you do?

I'd take him back to A&E pudmog - the anti-b's should be kicking in by now I would think - unless it's viral. If you're not happy then you won't settle.

MarsOnLife · 13/01/2006 17:51

honey he's only little. Don't you worry about being an over anxious mum. Back to A&E with you!

choccywoccydoodaa · 13/01/2006 17:53

Take him back to G.P. preferably (do yours have an evening appointment??) failing that A&E. Something isn't right Pudmog - especially if he has had an elevated temperature and is still wheezing. Hope he is better soon.

shrub · 13/01/2006 17:54

i would take him back to a & e

picnikel · 13/01/2006 17:56

Trust your mummy instincts - if you're worried about him, get him checked again. Hope he's feeling better soon.

yes I'd go back to A&E too

Pudmog · 13/01/2006 18:11

May be we will wait til morning or go later this evening. I hate this- can't bear watching him like this- all the stair gates are open' cos he is just lying all forlorn on the futon- not even his big sister can raise a smile.

If your instincts are telling you that there is something wrong then take him to A&E. Why take chances?

Definatly go back.

chapsmum · 13/01/2006 18:41

I would take him to the nearest childrens a and e if you have one. any child under the age of two with a prolonged temp despite calpol and antibiotics requires admission, do not hesitate.

MarsOnLife · 14/01/2006 12:42

How's he doing pudmog?

NannyL · 14/01/2006 16:20

sounds like he needs to see another medical profeessional asap.

if you really dont want to go to a& e again call your GP and take him to out of hours surgary.... who will either
send you to hospital (in which case thats where he needs to be)
OR reassure you that he is still ok to be at home and advise you on what to do, when to go back etc.

dont leave it anylonger... you know if baby is poorly.

hope he's better soon

Thank you everyone- after a very restless, high temp night- his fever seems to have broken ( sounds so old fashioned!) and he is much happier today. Temp much better, wants to drink but not eat - still not well but at least his cheeky little smile has returned! Very tired still.

I really appreciate your support and dh and I had said to ourselves that if his temp stayed at 38.5 or above or his breathing rate/wheezing got worse we would take him back. I hate watching and waiting for our babies to be better- 6 days of high temps is a long time though!
