Dehydration

We are going through the ringer big time.
DD has had a ear nose and throat infection and a cough which we've got antibiotics for, after a day on the antibiotics started vomiting everything she ate, couldn't keep even on ounce of milk in her so took her back to GP who changed her antibiotic. This morning the vomiting has stopped but she has diorrea like you wouldn't believe. I'm changing her nappy every half an hour. She lost her appetite and I'm struggling to get her to drink. So far today she's had about 10oz of milk and about 3oz of Dioralite. I am terrofied she will get dehydrated. GP said not to worry if she's bright and lively and wanting to play which she is, she's not lethargic or listless, but I know how quickly a child can get sick.

It is difficult when they are so young and cant tell you how they are feeling, but the doctor is right and if she appears OK, she more than likely is.

To be fair, she hasnt done too bad there. Just keep offering her plenty of water.

If anything does change or the dihorrea continues for more than a few days, just take her back (or call you HV).

Call NHS direct then do ABSOLUTELY what they say- a call to them makes the GP's I have had respond much better than a worried Mummy. can you tell if her nappies are ever wet? If so, a good sign. But do call, get proper advice.

I don't have NHS direct, I live in Ireland.
Her nappies have been drier than normal and her urine was a bit yellow. The last nappy I changed was quite wet and the diorrea a bit more solid looking. I'm desperate not to bring her to the hospital tho as we had to for a tummy bug when she was 3 weeks old. They put her on a drip then and it was horrible.

Just got her to drink another 4oz.

I wouldn't worry too much TBH if drinking again, if it still the same with the diarrhoea tomorrow take her into GP's. just keep going with the dioralyte, forget anything else until a bit better. Pharmacist told us that's OK for a day or two.

Thanks. Am less worried now she's taken more milk for me. Thanks for advice.
