Random numb patches in legs/feet. Lower back/pelvis issues? Something else?

For the last couple of months I've been getting numb patches in my legs and feet. First was the outside edge of both big toes, which I put down to ill-fitting shoes. Then a stripe down the back of each thigh - I assume i pinched the sciatic nerves. I have a heavy one year old who I lug about a lot and do have an achy lower back. The sensation has fully returned in all these areas.

I've now got a numb patch about the size of an orange at the top front of my thigh, just below my hip Confused. I'm booked in to see a chiropractor/shiatsu type guy in case the problem is my lower back/pelvis but was just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues and could shed some light.

For info, I've been investigated for most inflammatory autoimmune conditions (ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis etc) after suffering from recurrent iritis - nothing has been found.

It would be extremely rare for it to be sciatica as that typically is one side only that the nerve gets compressed on.

Have you been back to your GP about the numb patches?

Try seeing an osteopath (my second recommendation for this therapy this morning!). They will be able to diagnose whether or not you have any pinched or trapped nerves, how well your circulatory system is performing and whether that has any bearing on your symptoms, together with readjusting your skeletal alignment if necessary.

No, not been to the gp yet, the new numb patch only appeared today and I had (I thought) reasonable explanations for the others.

tbh I think that the GP would be a reasonable first step, especially given that you are already under investigation.

Yes, it's true Xmas Sad, thanks anyway.

Dr Google (I know, I know) tells me that there is an unusual condition (Behcet's) that can cause both iritis and numbness - and also mouth ulcers, which is interesting as I get quite a few. I will go in the new year and ask.

Ujj, the guy I am going to see should be able to diagnose any pinched nerves, he's awesome.
