What are the chances of me getting antibiotics?

I have had a rotten cold for about four weeks now. I feel awful, having to use a puffer as my chest is tight and I cannot stop coughing to the point of throwing up. My ears and throat hurt and I feel worn out.

I have an appointment tomorrow for a smear but don't know if it's worth dragging myself out 3 hours earlier for an emergency appointment if the GP will say to take plenty of fluids and rest (which is what I have been doing to no avail).

Do you have preventor as well as ventolin?

Maybe asthma broughton by cold so need steroids, higher preventor or something. Go and let dr listen to chest. Do you know peak flow?

Giraffes - I was given a ventolin when pg (which was 5 years ago) but have never been diagnosed with asthma. (I know from reading one if your threads a while back that you suffer badly with it) I only use DH's at the start of hayfever season usually and have never really followed it up with my GP. I do think it has gone to my chest as have heard wheeziness.

You should go to the appointment. If it isnt even your ventolin that you are using then what would you have been like without that?

Depends on your doctor!

I've had precisely what you describe for two months (started on my twins's first birthday Sad), as have my now 14 month old twins. I've taken the babies to the doctor twice in that time, and been sent home to sit it out as 'it's a virus, antibiotics won't help'.

Last Sunday, I reached the end of my tether and went to out of hours. Basically said I wanted to try antibiotics for the babies whether the doctor they'd work or not and pushed and pushed until she prescribed them. I couldn't face watching my babies cough to vomiting again, losing sleep and being so down and miserable.

By Tuesday morning they were back to being themselves again. Still coughing, but no more vomiting and THEY'RE HAPPY Grin After two months of this, I'd missed by happy go lucky babies - it's lively to have them back Grin

I'm sure the doctor would say it is a coincidence that they got better 36 hours after starting antibiotics. I don't believe it.

On the other hand, my mum's GP hands antibiotics out ASAP to see if they work. Maybe I should go and see him next time ...

Thank you for the nagging. Xmas Grin I was able to book an appt just before seeing the nurse. She has now registered me as officially asthmatic and given me the brown steroid puffer and anti-B's. She gave me this look -> Hmm when I told her that I had been using DH's ventolin.

I have an upper respitory infection. I have been registered for the asthma clinic too.

Thanks. I am hoping to feel better very soon. Smile

Hope you all have a healthy Xmas.
