Hi not sure where to post, but I've put it here in the hope of some wise mumsnetters . Anyway I am having the above operation at the end of Feb, have been thinking of having it done for a while and had my consultation the other night, The only thing the plastic surgeon said was that we need to sort out long term contraception, which is fine we have finally decided no more children, but as no contraception is 100% I thought about sterilizing or dp having the snip but he's not for it! My question is Do you think they would do it at the same time, as I have never heard of anyone having it done same time, and after much GOOGLING I have come up with no information, I don't want to sound silly phoning up the secetary and saying could you add on a sterilizing op please. Anyone know?

So I will be having this when I can afford it

Can you rather than speak to the receptionist have a word with your surgeon instead?

I really don't want to sound stupid though, he did say we need to sort it out incase acccidently we became pregnant as I would have stretch marks up to my rib cage because the skin would be stretched so much, however he didn't mention about sterilizing at the same time IYSWIM

I think you should ring the surgeon. Even if some surgeons would do it, your surgeon might not like the two things to be done at the same time. No-one's going to think you are stupid. People ask far simpler questions of surgeons and their secretaries, I'm sure!

my concern would be is a plastic surgeon qualified to do it? I have heard of it done during C-section but that would make sense as it is same "skill set"... however, plastic surgeons are trained in different skills and areas... best bet is to talk to clinic were you are getting it done..

kidstrack - have no idea about whether you could be sterilised at the same time; I guess your best bet is to bite the bullet and phone up, otherwise you will never know.

Can I be really nosey and ask if you're paying for your op or are you having it on the NHS? I'm thinking about approaching my GP to ask about it as I think I'd have grounds to go on an NHS waiting list.

QE2 I'm paying its 5,000(sorry pound button doesn't work lol) thats a 4night stay, My gp said I didn't fit the strict criteria as of 3yrs ago, I'm 24 and although I have had a c/s and back problems it wasn't considered serious enough, which is absolutely fine. A family friend in her early 40,s had a protruding bowel and a weeping belly buton as well as 3c/s and inches of loose skin, she didn't meet the criteria and I would of said hers was in need but she had to go private, saying that a friend of mine got her boobs done on the NHS because she was depressed!
