Have just been tested for underactive thyroid and they came back borderline and negative for antibodies.Receptionist told me over the phone, just wondering can the receptionist tell me what the actual levels were or would I need to speak to a gp? Also anyone been borderline and had symptoms?

I think you can be borderline and still have too much TSH which shows the thyroid is not working properly. And have symptoms. But despite having underactive thyrid am woefully ignorant about details. There are many very well-informed folk on here and hopefully one will be along shortly!

You can get a printout of all the results then see what google has to say about it :-)
Better than taking anyone's word for it imo

You can get a print out for results - that's the easy bit, but make sure you ask what the parameters are for your area as they change throughout the country, as does the way the test is calculated when the blood test is done.

So google will be of no blardy use unless you have the full information.

A bit like eating a meal without a knife and fork.

where I am the T4 needs to be between 13-24, the T3 between 2-6 and TSH needs to be ??can't remember

As ivykaty said the actual values are no good without the normal ranges which vary depending on what type of biochemistry machine they use to run the bloods.

Probably the most significant thing is that your antibodies are negative the most common form of hypothyroidism is immune mediated for which you must have antibodies to destroy your thyroid. I am at high risk of hypothyroidism and I get my antibodies check every year the rhuematologist tells me that they will be present for at least 9 months before hypothyroidism develops.
Your T4 levels can be low if you are unwell in another way due to euthyroid syndrome.

don't your doctors do the printouts with the range on them as well? I get the full works. borderline is an interesting concept as well - that varies according to the doctor/specialist/country. well worth more of a google once you've got the results
