eyesight deteriorated in 1 eye but eye test not due for another year!

I have just noticed that my eyesight is signifficantly worse in my left eye (suddenly realised I have been closing my eye when I'm on the computer

I'm not sure how long it's been like this as I have had a squint since childhood which has been cosmetically corrected but I tend to use my right eye even though I have always had equal vision

it's cloudy/blury towards the centre/right of my vision from that eye but clearer towards the outside

I had my eyes tested about a year ago and pay for eyetests (feeling a bit poor at the moment)

does anyone think this might be a GP visit to see if it's to do with squint or am I going to have to bite the bullet and pay for another eye test?

GPs are just that, general practitioners. You need an eye specialist, so yes, you need to go to an optician. It's about £17 iirc. Well worth it, especially if you're a driver. If you use a computer for work then they should pay for it for you.

Its very unlikely to be a squint. Its possible that it could be a problem with your retina, especially if you have any floating bits in the eye or flashes of light. I'd would either go now to the opticians or at the very latest first thing in the morning.

Sorry post should have said - its unlikely to be due to your squint

What Karoleann said. Can you go to the A&E department of an eye hospital?

That sounds like it needs someone to have a look in your eye fairly soon. Go to your GP tomorrow, and they can take a first look and refer you to the eye dept at the hospital if they think its necessary. When dh had an eye problem last year, he saw the gp at 8.30, had a full eye exam there (one of the gps has a special interest, so has more equipment than normal), and was at the eye dept by 12.30
