Night Sweats / Elevated protein levels / Haematology Appt

CunningRunt · 14/12/2011 10:37

Have nc'd for this as don't want to out myself. Posted a few weeks ago about night sweats and bruising, and had some blood tests done. My GP has now referred me to a haematology/oncology unit which has freaked me out somewhat. The appointment came through very quickly (within a week) and is today. Does anyone know what I can expect from this?

I have had 2 lots of blood tests, and the GP just said that one of my protein levels was a bit high, but didn't expand on that.

Am just freaking out a bit. Any advice welcome!

Thanks very much.

Don't know anything about this but just wanted to say I had a really abnormal blood test result a couple of years ago when in the throes of a chest infection. The Dr actually rang me as soon as they came through and asked me to get another done straight away - v scary at the time. With DS3 also i was told to go straight to the children's hospital to have blood tests done when he had lumps in his neck, groin and underarms. Dr said not to wait until I had been to meeting even but to go straight away. Both of us fine :) Good that it is being checked. Hope everything goes well and that the results are fine.

I don't know about protein levels, but I do remember your last post and am glad you are being seen fast - that would be the right thing to do, regardless. And much better fast at this time of year too, for that matter!

Totally understand your anxiety, am sure I would feel the same - and will be crossing fingers for you that its something easily treatable and unscary. Whatever it does turn out to be, much better to find out quickly and tackle fast. Good luck, xx

How did it go, CR?

CunningRunt · 14/12/2011 16:38

Thanks for replying everyone. Elibean I'm still waiting at the hospital :( My appt was at 3 and I still haven't been seen. But will post an update when I've been seen.

Thank you so much, how kind of you to remember me.

Poor you, how frustrating!

Hope the wait is soon over, and that you get some reassurance. I've known two people go through similar symptoms and remember the worrying, so feel for you Smile

CunningRunt · 14/12/2011 17:14

Thankyou Elibean. Have just seen the consultant. He doesn't think there's anything too much to worry about but has asked for a CT and further bloods to be on the safe side.

They probably won't be done till the New Year now so am going to think positive and try not to worry. Thank you so much again Thanks

More than welcome - and, hurrah! If the consultant isn't worried, thats very good news Xmas Smile

Have a lovely Christmas!

mumof3teens · 14/12/2011 18:13

That sounds really good - he wouldn't have said that if he was really worried. You can now concentrate on having a lovely Christmas x

lucjam · 14/12/2011 20:14

Thats great news, I've been checking for news about you. Am really really pleased for you, I hope that you can have a nice relaxing christmas now. Best wishes and very un-mn hugs xxx

CunningRunt · 15/12/2011 08:36

Thank you all. Hadn't realised how worried about it I was until afterwards.

Hope you all have a great Christmas.

Thanks

Just updating for my own sanity really.... Had a CT scan on Sunday (yes, Sunday! Confused ) and got a consultant appt tomorrow.

Does anyone have any history of CT scan results? Will they be back in time for tomorrow's appointment, only I have a training day at work that I really shouldn't miss, but obviously don't want to miss out on any results.

Freaking out just a little bit as the nurses who were overseeing the scan were all laughy and jokey with me prior to the scan, but afterwards were very sober and serious. I know I'm probably just projecting onto them, but can't help thinking something is really wrong. :(

homeaway · 10/01/2012 15:30

You have a valid reason for missing the training session so go to your appointment. Your health is more important.

homeaway · 10/01/2012 15:35

The nurses probably became more serious when they were doing the scan as they had to concentrate on their job. Try not to worry, I know it is easier said than done but at the moment the results have been good and until you hear otherwise that is what you have to hold onto.

Elibean · 10/01/2012 16:25

Go to your appointment, CR - peace of mind is more important even than training Smile

And if I had a pound for every time I've projected terminal seriousness onto nurses, doctors, radiographers.....

...they had probably just talked about something serious, like one of their tax bills, just before you came out. Honestly, its impossible to tell anything from their faces, and they probably don't even know! Fingers crossed tomorrow brings total reassurance.

Elibean · 10/01/2012 16:25

ps what exactly were they scanning? Confused

CunningRunt · 10/01/2012 17:06

They're scanning for lymphoma I guess.

TheLightPassenger · 10/01/2012 19:20

Yes, the results could be available within 3 days (likely to be computerised as well as having a paper report), so do go to the appointment tomorrow.

WentworthMillerMad · 10/01/2012 21:11

Sending my love cunning - I think I posted on your old thread. I am not a
Medic but I did have lymphoma a few years ago. It is VERY rare.
Yes your CT results could be though, even if they are not reported by the radiographer the consultant can look although may not tell you so! He can look at the pictures and tell if they are normal.
Forget about work x x

LargeGlassofRed · 10/01/2012 21:24

Have had a few ct scans and if urgent they can get the results very quickly. My last one they had the results a couple of hours later.
Hope you get on ok tomorrow.
