i feel so sorry for you stitch. i suffererd with allergic rhinitis all through my childhood right up to about 10 years ago when i was 27. its so drepressing and wotever the doctors gave me didnt work. my mum was forever taking me up there, nose sprays etc. my nickname in my late teens was "sniffer", i found it quite funny then but i must have been really annoying sniffing constantly.i also suffered terrible hayfever but ive grown out of that too, thank goodness. i hope you find a miracle cure and have better luck than i did.

hi stitch, yes i just grew out of it, i dont know how old you are but i would say i had it for over 20 years, sorry if thats bad news. i know my message didnt really give advice when i read it back but ive never met anyone else who suffers with it so it was a bit of a shock and i sounded off because it caused me such misery.

I was diagnosed with "non-specific rhinitis" about 13 years ago. Mine started after a flight from Los Angeles- when my head felt like it was exploding on landing. Mine has got better with time-used to trouble me at night a lot-now just sneeze a lot in the mornings. I used to spray steroids but stopped after they became less effective.
Incidently when pregnant I did not suffer and I always suffer worse after white wine.-Have you noticed any particular triggers?

lol orinoco!
ive got no sense of smell either. if i can actually smell something, then it must be completely ponging.
ive not managed to note any triggers at all.havent actually gone down the steroid route yet.
im 33and id say it only got worse in the last few years. after babies, but that also coincides with living in the uk permanently and working etc. so i thought it was just colds, one after the other and m e not taking care of myself.
a year ago i stopped living of paracetamol etc and started all the zinc and vitamins etc. i do feel slightly better, but still pretty awful.
will try the steroids
thanks for all your replies. i was beginining to think i was the only one in the world

I have found that having an ioniser on in each room and the bedroom as a minimum improves things considerably. that's because i'm allergic to dust mites, so the ioniser keeps the air clean. they were on special offer on boots online if you want to try that.

also vaporisers can be good when the nose feels really blocked, the kind you plug in and put a card soaked in karvol or whatever in.

steaming is good too, put your head forwards over a bowl of boiling water and inhale it for as long as you can.

I have a thing called a Sinucleanse, which is basically a plastic pot where you can wash out your nose & tubes with salty water (!) Sounds horrid, but actually works pretty well, although the main reason I got it was to help with a chronic post nasal drip, as my rhinitis has been much better in previous years. When I got it, you could only buy them in the US, but I think you can get them here now - try www.shopholistic.co.uk

Good luck!

thanks lyra, ill look into getting deionisers.
bramshott, i saw those things during my net research, they were for £120! are they worth that?
went to the chemists today, and got this seawater sppray for the nose. similar i guess to the sinucleanse you mentioned. worked wonders, but doesnt last for very long.
thanks girls.

Sorry, I didn't check this conversation for a while. The Sinucleanse I've got is here and is £11.95. Worth that I think.

you can get saltwater nasal sprays in Boots, don't know if that would be the same as the nose wash.
