Whilst stumbling to the loo in the dark on Saturday morning I mangled my little toe on the corner or the bath where the skirting doesn't quite meet, after much wailing & procrastinating, examined the injury & it seems like the wood acted like a 'toe mandolin' & sliced the nail & much of the flesh from it, which was hanging & wobbling about.

After more wailing, sweating & general horror sprayed it with iodine, steri-stripped it back together & bound it up, had a look on Sunday & changed the dressing & seems to be healing up ok with no infection, but good Lord the pain, could not sleep last night it was so bad - had to take co-codamol, feels the same today, burning, horrid pain.

Surely it should have calmed down by now?

Im a HPC registered degree podiatrist, there's so many nerve endings in the toe that when you have an injury it will hurt a lot. When your in bed try to lie on your side because just the weight of the duvet is enough to aggravate an injury.

Eat a good diet, take a vit c and zinc tablet and wait for it to heal, it will take longer if you smoke or live with a smoker.

Try not to overload it with iodine, it's ok for 7 days but after that it can slow down healing. Dont forget that you can take a paracetamol and ibuprofen together iirc. Check with the pharmacist though if your on co-codamol. I take both together for period pains.

Thanks Fluffy - thought it may be something to do with the number of nerve endings down there, that has reassured me - will follow the advice.
