Does anyone else ever get an overwhelming fear of bad things happening?
Please don't rush for the straight jacket just yet. I've just been sat watching Without You.. my DS asleep on my lap & whilst watching it I had a wave of fear go over me & my heart felt like it fluttered. I just burst in to tears. I felt so scared of bad things happening & I can't shake it.

this is just a symptom of OCD - if it's any comfort I had that pretty badly for a while..it will pass, but meanwhile apply the breathing techniques (follow your breath in and out for a few minutes. x

wifey6 · 13/12/2011 13:56

I thought it might be linked mary...I have had brief thoughts like that but this stunned me & I couldn't breath. Thank you mary.

it's often a thing when you have a small child too-the responsibility feels huge, and also because you are happy (am presuming you are generally- happy to have family etc) there is the fear of it being taken away if you aren't really vigilent - tell yourself 'this is just the ocd playing with my mind' It will pass but I know it's scary.

wifey6 · 13/12/2011 14:10

You are absolutely right...everything you have said is how I feel....thank you for understanding. I just can't shake it off. Sad

wifey6 · 13/12/2011 16:53

don't be afraid to ask for help -and if they offer anti depressants you might like to try them as they do take the edge off anxiety

wifey6 · 13/12/2011 17:47

That's my issue..asking for help. I never have...not with my DS..house..life etc. I really appreciate your advice. Smile

it's hard I know, but this is important, don't let it spoil your life. Some things we need a bit of help with and you mustn't be ashamed to ask.

wifey6 · 13/12/2011 18:01

I know...I won't let it. I appreciate your advice & kindness. Smile
I'm going to do some self-help reading & see if that helps. I'm getting better at asking for help..my DH & DM...it just feels like they will think I'm not coping. Although they both say I am too hard in myself. But I'm really working on dealing with all these things.

I'm sure they won't think that- you need to be kinder to yourself ! Am happy to help where I can Xmas Smile

Panadbois · 13/12/2011 19:08

have you tried rescue remedy?

wifey6 · 13/12/2011 19:47

mary thank you so much
panda....I was thinking of that...is it any good?

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 13/12/2011 22:29

hello panda I have used Rescue Remedy - am not convinced it works but it makes me feel better (so it must really!)

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/12/2011 22:30

sorry panadbois

Panadbois · 14/12/2011 08:25

I used to suffer from panic attacks whilst away from home on holiday, though I didn't know what it was at the time.

Now, my coping strategy for any anxiety like this is some Kalms, Rescue remedy and my favourite chill out music on my mp3 player, some Norah Jones. Listening to this kind of music helps me regulate my breathing, and works a treat Smile

Mary - I don't know how it works but it does, could be mind over matter, but at least it does work!!

OP - it's horrible when anxiety sets in, but knowing that it'll pass helps me. If you can find a meditation cd, and give yourself half an hour to listen to it, it will help, I promise you.

Having a coping strategy in its self gives me reassurance. Hope you're feeling better.

wifey6 · 14/12/2011 08:32

panad....thank you for our advice. I'll look for some rescue remedy & see if it helps. Worth a try. I do feel better today thank you...still have a 'niggling' feeling but not as overwhelming as yesterday. I'm going to look up more about OCD & anxiety as I am still a novice although suffering for a quite a few years. I used to ignore it but feel if I know how to understand it I can learn how to cope better.

I sound like a cliche- but knowledge is power - why not check out OCD for Dummies- that is pretty good with exercises or the David Veale book...will find and link- it was recommended by a psychologist and I have used it...

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/12/2011 08:43

here

wifey6 · 14/12/2011 08:44

Thank you mary...
I feel if I can understand it all properly then I can accept its a part of me & deal with it.
For years I have let it beat me & get me down. I have dealt with the cleaning side of it...just the thoughts now.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 14/12/2011 09:15

that's great - you are doing brilliantly- the book will teach you techniques to deal with compulsive thoughts - it has a CBT approach and that is the most effective treatment for OCD.

wifey6 · 16/12/2011 10:41

Hi ...luckily after a few days the thoughts have near enough gone & I don't get them as often.
I have been reading a lot about OCD..anxiety & compulsive thoughts..I fit the bill!
It helps to understand & I have now re-started doing techniques I learnt from CBT which I had forgotten about til I read about it on-line. Thank you for all the help & advice...it definitely helped get me through these few days til I could get it out of my system.
