Funny how you forget about teething.... second time around, just got ds sleeping through and suddenly he's awake half the night. Has a cough, but has had that for ages - so can only assume it's teeth. He's putting everything in his mouth, but has done that for months now. Wondered if anyone had a) a checklist for teething? b)Remedies that work (am trying granules, calpol didn't seem to work and don't want to keep giving it every night anyway in case it's not teething). Agree with Jps this guessing at what's causing the crying is so hard - it could just be wilfulness I suppose but he does seem so distressed and it is new-ish behaviour. All tips /experiences welcom

Miraculously fine...now wondering if it was teeth after all as he's going through a clingy stage. Did sleep training on Thurs as I was in on my own (hubby too soft) and last night he slept through.....though every time I say that to anyone we have a week of hellish nights so pretend I didn't!

Cl, I just had a discussion with my son's doctor about the lactose containing granules. He (my son, not his doctor) is allergic to milk protein and I asked about lactose. The doctor said it's fine for kids who are allergic to milk protein. Lactose is a sugar found in many (all?) animals' milks, including humans. If my son had a lactose intolerance it would have shown up already as I'm breastfeeding.

So there you go! I've spent the last three years mistakenly believing I had to avoid lactose (my eldest is also allergic to milk) which is frustrating, but at least I found out before doing it all again.

Does 6c potency mean that chamomilla is diluted to one part in 100^6?

My 9 month old has had a fever for over 48 hours - 38 degrees and up - pretty unrelenting. He had chickenpox recently but was over it when this kicked in, I feel this time around it's probably teeth related as no other symptoms. We're getting rather desperate as we're not getting any sleep, anyone had such a high fever just from teeth?

Twink · 01/04/2002 17:32

I think if I were you I'd ring your GP for guidance/reassurance given the recent illness.
A number of times I've been sure that dd's high temperature was down to teething but she's 2 years old now. We followed a GP friend's recommendation of overlapping and alternating Nurofen for Children and Calpol, so a dose of one can be given every two hours. This has usually kept the fever down and the Nurofen helps to reduce the swelling in the gums too.
Last time it went on for a few days and I began to think there was something else wrong, but then 4 molars erupted simultaneously...

Does anyone know if having red flush cheeks is associated with your wisdom teeth coming in?

bwhiskey · 01/07/2004 19:36

why is it that all the official health sites say that 'fever is NOT part of teething' when there are so many real life accounts contradicting that statement? is this just a liability issue talking? are doctors afraid to admit on record that fever is part of teething because they fear mums and dads will misread their child's fever - i find that stance a bit patronising to say the least. as if we aren't conscious of other symptoms or too stupid to look for them. it's bad when you don't get reliable information from health professionals or health sites. when we took our 9 month old to emergency with a fever and no other symptoms none of the three doctors who looked at him mentioned teething as a possibility. so we left wondering what on earth was wrong with our son. (teething). good grief. thanks for the reassurance...

gloworm · 03/07/2004 15:05

i cant believe the official can say teething anfd fever are unrelated!!!
ds is 2, and has just one more tooth to get, he has has a high temp with every bout of teething so far. in fact its always the first sign that another tooth is about to come!

mummysue · 11/12/2006 21:56
