Mucus cough dragging on and on - any tips/recommendations?

I've seen a doctor who says no infection, but it's dragging on and on. Have had extra asthma meds, but the cough has now owrn me down entirely (hence me being awake at silly o clock. Dragged myself into work with it all last week, and now I'm not working it's whacked me out. When the cold air hits it, it's worse therefore look like a mugger with my scarf wrapped round me at school pick up.

I'd appreciate any tips/recommendations no matter how silly - medication or homemade. My favourite place for not coughing is in a hot bath with some menthol oil, but obviously as dh works away and I have 4 children it's a bit limiting. Even loading the dishwasher seems like an insurmountable task.

Thanks.

Go back and get checked again, demand a chest x-ray. I am currently in hospital and doctor listened to my chest and said it was clear, but had xray anyway and I have a serious lung infection. Last time this happened it developed into pnuemonia

Watching with interest as DH, DD (1.5yrs) and I have all had mucous cough for almost 2 weeks. It's just lingering.

I had a bad one recently. I found this blog which has links to wheezing breathing exercises which help clear your chest with a lot less coughing. They're not nice to do but they're better than the constant cough.

Stars, you poor thing. Hope you are getting better now. I'll go back.

It really is a pain, isn't it? Mine came on last Sunday and I know loads of others with the same symptoms.

Thanks, plenty, I'll look at those exercises.

Howis your peak flow? Are you wheezey? You might need steroids if its asthma related. What colour are you coughing up?

I had prednisolone for 5 days, and my wheezing's not bad - don't have a peak flow at home that works accurately. I'm doubling up my symbicort am and pm from 1 to 2 for this week. I had a neb and ecg at the hospital last Sunday. It's just the wretched cough that's whacking me out, then I can't sleep because I wake up coughing having chucked out my neatly arranged pillows and turned onto my back in my sleep. I tried a few days sleeping on a chair - less coughing but not good in any other way! I'm coughing up white stuff and iir the doc won't give me abs for that?? This happens every couple of years, but with working ft for the last couple of weeks and dh away, it's taking ages to get over this time.

I must be feeling a bit better as I've showered and dried my hair already, and need to go out Christmas shopping. I also looked at the mess in the kitchen and cleared it up, where yesterday I wouldn't have even started. I'll take it very slowly, and do a primary school drive-by drop off with dd3 so I don't have to walk up the hilll

Just winds me up we can send people to the moon but can't fix colds.

Poxy winter germs.
