Driving me mad

Also itching around the area you get bunions (don't have bunions though)

What is it? DP reckons athlete's foot Hmm

I've smothered in E45 but still doing my head in

Athletes foot is usually between the toes - DS used to get it when he was swimming alot and didn't dry between his toes properly. Red, flaky and itchy skin.

You get special creams from the chemist or the GP

Sidge · 07/12/2011 22:05

Either athlete's foot or dermatitis.

I seem to be prone to AF on my left foot and the itching drives me doolally.

Try an antifungal and if no benefit within a few days see the GP, you may benefit from some steroid such as hydrocortisone.

Chilblains?

notnowbernard · 07/12/2011 22:09

Thankyou

The skin isn't flaky but is red and my toes look swollen

Think I have some hydrocortisone cream knocking about somewhere too

Btw, Sidge - just want to say thanks Thanks. You may not remember, but you gave me some great advice about bedwetting re my dd... she's been on Desmopressin for about a year or so now but has been dry without it for 2w now. So fingers crossed the hormone has kicked in. Cheers!

It sounds like it could be chilblains. Chilblains are awful.

notnowbernard · 07/12/2011 22:12

Don't you get chillblains from sitting in front of a fire though?

I was going to say chilblains too. You get them from your feet getting too cold, then they start to swell and itch when they warm up. I haven't had them for a few years, but they were often worst in bed when my feet got warm.

Typically swollen red and often sort of shiny-looking. mine were sometimes a bit purplish when very bad

Sidge · 07/12/2011 22:34

Aww I remember notnowbernard - I'm so glad to hear things are better Smile

Eczema can cause swelling and itching but is often accompanied by dryness and skin peeling.

lostlady · 07/12/2011 22:34

Sounds like chilblains to me- soooo itchy . Keep your feet warm, with cosy socks but avoid heating up too much with direct heat.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/12/2011 07:34

ouch- chilblains ! I had those for the first time last winter- couldn't think what was wrong- keep your feet warm !

worldgonecrazy · 08/12/2011 07:48

If it is chilblains then you can cure them by rubbing them with onion or garlic cloves. Or apparantly peeing on them also helps (you might want to do this in the shower).
