Hello

Had a bad cold for a few weeks that has not progressed onto sinitus (i think)i am very tender under one eye and i have to constantly blow my nose yucky thick yellowy brown stuff or little lumps comes out of the nostril on the tender side - sorry for the horrible details.

Not had this before, it is driving me mad, my nose is going to fall off with all this wiping.

What can I do other than steaming?

Do I have to take medication to get rid of it? I would perfer not to as I am 23 weeks pregnant.

Also to top it all off today I have developed a real constant dull ache in my lower back on the right side. It is very uncomfortable especially when standing or sitting upright.

I feel sorry for myself and cant stop moaning... poor dh and dd

My mum has been ill since Boxing Day and now has a sinus infection and is in alot of pain in her face, has constant headache and is flaked out generally. See the GP but I don't know whether you can have anti-b's when pregnant.

Hope you feel better soon.

The pain in the face and under the eye sounds exactly like me when I had sinitus. You need to see your GP who will give you what's best for you and bump.

went to gp last week before it developed into this and he presribed me a nasal spray but i am alway reluctant to use medicine especially being pregnant. plus my gp always has his presription pad ready and is obsessed with asthma, go to him with a cold or cough and he tries to get you on an inhaler.

... my fault its developed into sinitus, i should of got the spray. i still the presciption so i will get it tomorrow and see if it helps. i better try it before i go back to him otherwise he will tell me off.

is there an alternative ways to deal with this, what is in these nasal sprays anyway???

I had sinusitis whilst pg. Felt lousy and v painful. Took antibiotics for full 10 day course. Much better to have antibiotics whilst pg than develop complications of sinusitis. My main problem was not being able to take enough painkillers because of pg. Slept each night with small bags of frozen sweetcorn on face which I replaced whenever pain woke me. Not nice

Hope you feel better soon. Don't worry about AB and baby - just be prepared to get thrush.

Ouch-very painful. I had sinusitis before christmas and my GP advised penicillin. He said this is one of two drugs "felt unlikely to cause harm to baby when pg". I got the prescription but held off to see of I could get rid of it without them. The other drug that is not thought to be harmful is paracetamol as is is processed quite a bit by our livers apparantly before reaching the placenta. I took paracetamol to cope with the pain, but managed to get rid of it within 2 weeks without anti-biotics. GP had said this was possible but would be much quicker with penicillin. I did lots of steam inhalations, and hot baths are a more relaxing way of getting moisture up your tubes. You could use some essential oils like eucalyptus, but I didn't coz I was taking homepathic remedies. These helped a lot but yoy'd probably need to see someone to see what remedies might work for you. I took Mag. Phos for pain, and Kali Bich for the sinusitis. You need to keep the mucus flowing, and try and help your body get rid of the infection this way. Also make sure you're getting enough rest and fluids, and anti-inflammatory foods such as garlic, onions, ginger etc and plenty of vit.c. Try and prevent your central heating from drying your mucus up, esp at night by putting wet laundry or bowls of water on your radiators... Phew! Hope that helps, and don't blow your nose too hard... Good luck and hang in there.. it will pass...

i spray my nostrils daily w/saline solution - i use one called Sterimar. i've had sinusitis pretty regularly for most of my life and usually have 1-2 sinus infections/year.

during pregnancy it was far, far worse. i wound up w/two infections and did need antibiotics.

i also bought one of those facial steamers, much easier than head over a bowl or sink, but as w/humidifiers you have to be scrupulous about keeping them clean.

add some drops of olbas oil to a humidifier or facial steamer if you're using a heater in your room - wet towels over the radiator work, too, but i've got electric storage heaters so that wasn't an option for me.
