Pelvic Floor Exercises - Shouldnt be this hard, surely??

Every couple of months I decide that I will do my PFEs, and properly this time, for good.
Never happens, and this is why - they're bloody hard and awkward and make my area feel all weird afterwards.
Bollocks to being able to do them in meetings, on the tube, at the dinner table etc. I cant do them without looking like im doing exactly what I'm doing (or possibly like im having a poo?)
Basically, I can do the whole In to the count of ten, hold to the count of ten, out slowly, repeat x10, in, hold, relax repeat x10 but god, its not easy! And doing that 6 times a day? For the rest of my life?
I want those who know to tell me it gets easier, that its only difficult because I never see t through. I d also like to hear that it gets easier after, ooh, a day or so?
But dont lie obv.
Also...why does my Vajine feel weird after I do the exercises? Cant decsribe it too well, but I'm sort of hyper-aware of it. And then I feel like im doing a sort of reverse PFE, Even though I'm not. I think.

I wish I had a penis.

Just get the battery gizmo, known in our house as the fanny flagelator. Works great.

I can sympathise with the tedium of pfe but not with any sensations afterwards. Except perhaps if you are overworking the muscles, then they will be fatiqued just like any other muscle. The fact that you are doing them in spurts might cause fatigue, as opposed to building up more slowly.

As to the look on your face, there shouldn't really be such a look. The bearing down and straining to have a bowel movement process is quite different from the pulling up of your pelvic floor. Your abs and your backside should be minimally involved.

FWIW I use vaginal weights, a gizmo similar to the one DrSuess uses, and I do separate pfe.

The research evidence suggests that lots of women are not doing pfe properly.

Im really interested in a Fanny Flagelator, but I wonder if it really does as thorough a job as uh manual exercises? Moot point though really, as ive never stuck to them anyway Hmm though have been doing them two WHOLE days now Might do a bit of research and if the results are meant to be the same then sod it, im getting one.

Esperance - I think you are right that its the weird sensations after are just bog standard work-out fatigue. My lazy Vagina is Feeling The Burn! I do think I'm doing the exercises correctly, making sure not to clench buttocks and abs, pulling in and up etc...think the face is just from the amount of concentration its taking atm. Hopefully that will get better.

Just want it to get EASIER! SOON!!

I sympathise Jeremy. I can't do them without raising my eyebrows. It's as though my pelvic floor is attached to them with strings.

JeremyVile · 07/12/2011 17:27

Hahaha thats it exactly!
My tongue keeps poking out too, like when i used to play Sonic.

Jeremy:

Here are the NHS guidelines for incontinence treatment. Hah, I know you are not incontinent; only that you don't want to be...

On pages 50 onwards, chapter 4, you'll see the summary of the research evidence on pelvic floor exercises, vaginal cones and electrical stimulation with references at the end of the document.

esperance - thank you! I cant open pdf documents on my laptop for some reason, so have googled nice PFE - it looks like manual exercises came out on top and the electronic gizmo is best used in addition to exercises. Humph.

Oh well, better get used to them then.

Just did another set and realise a big part of my problem is breathing. Or rather not breathing. Finding it very difficult to breathe normally and hold the uh, grip. I have the same problem with abs exercises actually.

I notice nobody has yet offered any hope that it all gets easier Hmm

I need a fannyflagellator. Have to have one in my life.

ameliagrey · 07/12/2011 20:21

you might be over doing it OP. i've read that you squeeze front bottom, then back bottom as well, and lift- counting to 4, like floors in a lift- hold for 4 secs, then let out slowly 1,2,3,4.

repeat 5 times, and do 10 x a day.
