Can anyone help, just come back from the GP and his answer was "no idea, not pregnant are you?"

I've been feeling dizzy and nauseous for well over a month now and i've had enough so went to my GP who says he hasn't a clue, made me take a pregancy test 'just in case' (negative) and has put me on some meds to 'help restore my balance centre'.

He wasn't overly confident they'd have any effect or what the root cause was. My ears are 'congested' but then that is their permanent state tbh and I'd rather know whats up rather than take tablets on a "oh this may help" basis!

Any ideas or know any way to help me? I feel like i'm on a boat on rough waters :(

I would agree, sounds like labarynthitis. Honestly? The tablets may not be the best thing to take I know, I know, contradicting your gp's advice but I work as nurse and the consultant I work with says the body should be allowed to adjust to symptoms like this and the tablets could make it go on longer......
I had this a few years back, I started to feel better after about 4 weeks.

Thanks both. I feel like crap tbh, the nausea is the worst bit of it its just constant :(

How does adjusting to it help? I gave it a month to fix itself and still feel the same which is why I went to the drs. It has been mentioned in the past grommets may help my ears (seperate issue) is it worth pushing for an ent appt as I've now got this on top?

If you're still suffering and your GP was that clueless it might be worth requesting a referral. Be careful to sit up/ stand up slowly. You could ask for antisickness pills or even those travel bands to help with the nausea.

Did he check your blood pressure?

NearlyMrsCustardsHardHat · 06/12/2011 11:46

Yes, blood pressure is normal, which is odd as normal for me is high iyswim.

I'm going to go and see if I can see a different Dr later in the week I have no confidence in this one.

Do you take any other medications?

NearlyMrsCustardsHardHat · 06/12/2011 11:58

Only inhalers for asthma and started new pain meds yesterday for fibromyalgia.
