I've got diarrhoea and vomiting. DS (7yo) went to bed feeling sick. DD is 6mo and breastfed and on solids. What do I do if DD gets it? Advice please. Bleurgh.

My DD did when she was about that age, luckily it was a couple of days after me.

You need to keep fluids in her, keep breastfeeding as much as you can. That's all.

If it is when you're ill, you will definitely need someone to help you. Do you have a DP around?

Hope you feel better soon, it really is awful. :(

Wobblyweeble82 · 03/12/2011 21:29

Would you believe it's his first night out in months? He's already half cut Sad I feel grim grim grim. When do I call a doc with dd? Obviously only if she needs it but when might that be?

We took DS to Doctors with D&V at around 9 months, the advise Loopy gives about BF was what we where told. Just keep BF, nothing else. I can't remember what we where told about taking him back, sorry.

If she's showing signs of dehydration. There are lots of advice sites that will show you how to test for that, it's the only thing that would really be a worry. Feed, feed and feed some more.

Wobblyweeble82 · 03/12/2011 21:44

Thanks folks. I've just been sick again Sad will my milk keep coming of I'm dehydrated? Can't face water yet

Yes, it will. Keep drinking though, and keep washing your hands carefully. It's hard when you're poorly, but try to keep the bathroom clean, this can be how it is spread (especially with projectile getting everywhere) and what you really want is DP not to get it, so you can recover.

LoopyLoopsWoopDeWoops · 03/12/2011 22:06

For you, ice lollies are brilliant, and peppermint tea. OR lemonade. Just drink whatever you can, whenever you can.

Hope you recover quickly. :)

My DS got it at 10 months. We went to a and e because he wasn't feeding, vomiting every 30 mins and had dry nappies and they prescribed us (although you can buy them) dioralytes. I recommend them. We had to give him them with a syringe, little and often.

hellhasnofury · 03/12/2011 22:16

Try water on a teaspoon first. One spoonful every 20 mins once you can keep that foen progress to small sips. Hope you feel better soon

LoopyLoopsWoopDeWoops · 03/12/2011 22:18

(For you, not DD.)

Wobblyweeble82 · 04/12/2011 00:12

Thanks so much everyone. Know it sounds melodramatic but I couldn't have got through this evening without having this lifeline here. Things have quietened down a touch - my tummy is just in spasm after spasm after spasm. So far it's only me too . Cross everything!!!

:) I hope it gets better really soon. We had varying degrees of it here, sometimes it doesn't take that long to get over.

Do keep hydrated, and do make sure you rest as much as you possibly can for the next few days.

:)

hellhasnofury · 04/12/2011 07:13

How are you feeling today?

plusonemore · 04/12/2011 07:30

we've all had this recently, be warned, if its like ours it can last about a week (not the D&V bit but feeling achey, crampy, not eating, etc etc) nasty, hope you feel better soon

Yahboosnubs · 05/12/2011 22:20

Ah I have had this too, last Wednesday and haven't been sick since then but last night and tonight I've had the cramping stomach, sit on the loo bit. I'm breastfeeding too (DD 5m) and she had a very loose nappy and was crying before that so probably had stomach cramps too. My problem is that I'm starving the whole time and don't know what to eat. Any suggestions?

I hope you're feeling better OP - at least you're not on crutches like me!

dikkertjedap · 05/12/2011 22:28

Try to have as good hygiene in place as is possible, have those hand gels within reach and then wash hands properly with soap and water asap. If you can't face water, maybe try dehydration drink. You may like some bland food after a little while, like plain crackers or slightly salted crackers, rice cakes, white toast, some boiled rice. Apple juice is a laxative so I would avoid that.

If your LO gets it, give lots of reassurance when she has to throw up. It is very scary for them and they can get in some kind of shock. Hold her forehead when she is throwing up, big cuddle afterwards. Don't give flat lemonade, it has been proven to make it worse. Best is breastmilk or water or rehydration drink. With LO you have to be very careful to spot early signs of dehydration as this can be very serious. NHS website has list of things to look out for.

Hope you will all be okay (soon).

GalaxyAddict · 05/12/2011 23:10

I also had a similar bug last week & have a 11 month DD. I still managed to BF & luckily DD did not get the bug.

When I felt well enough to eat I started on a bit of microwave 2 minute rice & then some mash potato with cheese & plenty of lemonade.

Hope you all feel better soon

Ive just seen this on the news and apparently its quite virulent in North East Essex where i live. Im just wondering how many people will go out when they are still contagious infecting others. Three years ago a lady came into our local gym to work out less than 24 hours after her symptoms stopped. I have a DH with serious health issues and this could put him in hospital if i was to bring this home and i dont really want it either. In my experience a lot of people dont care if they infect others.
Some peoples selfishness never ceases to surprise me.
