Constant hunger getting ridiculous..

Wasnt sure where to put this post.. but is health related!
Anyway, for the past week or so, I've just been ridiculously hungry - as in, an hour after a large meal, my stomach is rumbling.
I have a big, healthy and filling breakfast at 7.45am and by 9am my stomach is GROWLING and begging me to fill it. Had dinner at 6.30 - again, healthy and filling and already (7.20pm) my tummy is rumbling - normally I would go from lunchtime until dinner (7ish) but now I come home from school run and have a snack and have dinner with the children because I'm so hungry..
I know it doesn't sound life threatening, but I just don't know why Im so ravenous all the time - could it be something medical related? Often I get those 'days' or 'weeks' when Im a bit more hungrier than normal - but this is absolutely ridiculous!
Just to cross off anything it could be - am definitely not pregnant, have no other health problems, and generally very healthy :)

If it is about diet, there is a reason why you might suddenly be getting these symptoms - you're putting your body under a lot of pressure. The sugar causes an insulin spike each time you eat it, as the blood sugar levels have to be kept stead. The more you have to do this, the more of an impact it has on you.

As I said though - I'm not an expert and it may not be your diet. But over the last few years, as a low carber, I've read an awful lot about sugar and the impact it has on your blood sugar.

Carrots with the anaemia thing - I have been anaemic since I can remember - since maybe 13 years? Is hereditary as mother and grandmother suffer from it too.
Sorry about the pharmacy thing - didnt explain it properly - we have a small pharmacy attached to our doctors surgery where you collect prescriptions from.
Thank you for all of your advice - I am hoping to get to see a lovely doctor too!
Will let you know how I get on :)

BIWI Thanks for all your advice too - And thank you for explaining everything for me! Have taken all your brill advice on board and will look into different low carb 'diets' and the book :)

Popbiscuit Had 2 eggs for breakfast this morning! Have been trying to eat more nuts and that kind of thing rather than fruit too :)
I breastfed the triplets for all of about 10 weeks because I couldnt survive any longer being attached to a breast pump 24/7 and they were 2 in july.

Footle It sounds as though Im running on empty? I feel like Im constantly eating! Is more snacky bits rather than sitting down to actually eat as dont always get a chance to actually sit. Feel tired - but what mother doesn't? Having 5DC's is demanding, but I wouldnt necessarily say I was exhausted (Wouldnt have said that 2 years ago though haha!)

Footle has a good point. Stress can cause you to seek out serotonin-providing foods and it can also rob you of nutrients if you don't make sure to eat really carefully. How about sleep? Are you getting enough? That can wreak havoc with your appetite too.

10 weeks breastfeeding triplets is crazy awe-inspiring (as is being a mother of 5). You clearly are a superhero and maybe you just need more fuel than us mere mortals? You must be on your feet for most of the day (and a good chunk of the night still if the triplets are only 2?) which probably burns more calories than you'd think Smile.

Def get checked out - I wonder if it's because it's getting colder as well? Only I could have written your post!
The other night had big portion cottage pie, 3 types of veg on the side, an hour later I was so hungry I could have eaten it all over again Blush
Just constant hunger, I woke up the other morning at 5am ravenous and had to get up and have my breakfast. I do get hungry when I get cold too, especially if I've been outside with the horses

I hope you get on alright -I was always hungry last year, I could have to portions of lunch and still have cake in the afternoon, I wasn't just hungry i was never full. I was also getting thinner even though I ate more and more - it got to the point I was eating 5000 calories a day and not putting on weight. It was my thyroid.

nightcat · 03/12/2011 17:30

I would also say you are eating too much carbs & not enough protein. I used to feel like before my ds went gluten free, we used to have cereals, not anymore.
Now I will have 1 scrambled egg with a slice of ham/onions and dont feel hungry till about 1pm! No bread either.

PopBiscuit Thanks for that post!
I honestly dont think its stress - Im not trying to be defensive or anything, but although having 5 DD's is stressful.. Im not 'stressed' - we're pretty laid back in our house!
Believe it or not - I actually get pretty good sleep! I am currently having a sneaky 5minutes on here whilst DH is bathing DD's (long bath after long day!) - I reckon they will all be dressed/milked/storied and asleep by 6.45pm. This is after a very tiring day at the beach, but the triplets really are good sleepers normally to..
Also, didnt feel much of a supermum when DH left us to get the car today (only gone 5 minutes) - walked the DD's past an ice-cream place.. all 5 had blue lips and so I said no to ice-cream (Evil mother?).. que 5 girls throwing themselves on the floor, dramatically, whilst I stand there sweetly as there really is nothing I can do! Ha ha ha ha!

Anyway..! Thank you for all the other posts too :)

Probably worth getting yourself checked for diabetes.

nightcat · 04/12/2011 21:52

u are missing something in your diet, prob protein, so your body is asking for it, but it's not getting it so it keeps asking..

perfumedlife · 05/12/2011 01:36

I ate like that when ds was a baby, after I'd stopped breastfeeding. I used to take him to italian restaurants and order two three course lunches and eat them both. I was seven stone. There was simply no filling me, I felt hollow. Turns out was an over active thyroid.
