Sore throat, morning and night. GP or ignore?

I've had a sore throat, every morning, and every night, for the last few weeks, at least. Maybe a month.

It's not really really sore. I do have a bit of a continual cold. I am coughing up phlegm in the mornings.

My instinct is to ignore it, should I? It just seems to have lasted too long.

is your central heating on? radiator in your room?

LIZS · 06/01/2006 20:57

Agree about the heating. My long standing chesty cough has all but gone since we turned it off at night. It was vile every morning to the point of makign me retch and because I was breathing through my mouth at night my throat was rough too. Unless the phlegm is offensive or contains blood it is probably just the congestion.

Try a humidifier, or even just little bowls of water on the radiator. Another cause for morning sore throats can be something eloquently called nasal drip - so you could try raising your pillow. Antacid medicine (Galvoston?) is sometimes recommened to try too. None of these will hurt you so you could try for a few days and if no improvement, I'd advise you to go to the doc just to check it out.

Central heating off at night. No radiator in our room, anyway.

It probably is nasal drip. Maybe I'll take a decongestant at night and see what happens.

Hmm, good ideas anyway. Will think about it all and see if anything makes it go away.
