cerazette - is this normal?

i was taking micronor for 4 months with no problems earlier this year.
the doctor changed me to cerazette, saying it was a more commonly used pill.
everything was fine for the first few months, but recently things have been getting worse. my periods are irregular, varying from light spotting to flooding. i have been bleeding almost constantly for the last 7 weeks. im feeling really ratty and am tired all the time. i have a doctors appt next week, but was wondering in the meantime if anyone else had experienced anything similar. tia :)

I stopped taking cerazette last year because it put me into an almost permanent rage - I'm surprised I wasn't up on a murder charge tbh. Didn't have the bleeding, but think other MNers have.

Worth searching for previous threads - there are quite a few of them. I looked them up through my red mist and it was such a relief to know it was the pill making me so angry. Am on micronor now - no problems so far.

my gp said at 37 I'm too old for microgynon now so has put me on cezarrette

the main difference is that you don't stop taking it for a week I think

I have had light spotting but no rage

Almost constant. I persevered for a year but I was getting yucky brown etc for up to 3 weeks out of 4. Rubbish. In hindsight, I think it affected me mentally too. Not very helpful when I was going through a difficult patch generally.

Just get rid. I think there is another mini pill alternative available, but my GP said 'not as effective'. You have to be a lot more spot on with the timing with that one. No idea what statistics are behind that though.

VirgoGrr · 30/11/2011 15:44

I think whoever manufactures Cerazette must be 'sponsoring' a lot of GP 'seminars'. Perhaps somewhere conducive to talking about contraception, like the Maldives. Grin

Bastarding cerazette gave me such dizziness I thought there must be something seriously wrong....just leaning over to grab cake my tea had me literally falling off the sofa - no exaggeration there, I really did become so giddy. Stopped taking it, within 24 hours was 90% better, day after was fine.

Never again. Now debating what the blazes to do as Ive worked my way through every mini pill, can't take the combined pill, too young for DH to have the snip (so says doctor) and I'm not loving the idea of a copper coil.

my experience of cerazette has been very positive. think I am usually in the minority though. I had a lot more trouble with micronor. Cerazette is more suitable for overweight women as well (which I unfortunately am)

Have posted about this before. The main difference between Cerazette and Micronor is that Cerazette stops you ovulating. For me, this lead to lousy skin and a complete loss of sex drive.

kisstherain · 30/11/2011 18:08

thankfully i havent lost my sex drive! i think im defo going to come off it next week when i see the doctor. hopefully he will put me back on micronor as i hadnt any problems taking that. nothing else seems to agree with me, have had problems with the injection and the combined pill in the past and tried implanon once which only lasted a few days before i had to have it removed.
at 36 im not ready to do anything permanent!
