Anyone using BuTrans pain relief patches?

DH has just been presribed them for via the pain clinic he attends re his psoritatic arthritis. He hasn't got them yet - chemist got to order them in - but he has got the anti sickness medication that has to go with them.

You wear a patch for a week then change it's location.

Does anyone have any experiences of these? Or know anyone who does?

Anyone know anything about these? Dh has had his first patch on since Saturday and the pain relief is great.. but he has been sick as a dog! He is taking the anti sickness drugs that cme with them but their not working. He looks awful but doesn't want to take the patch off as the pain specialist told him any side effects would be temprorary.

But my sister, who has sickle cell disease so who knows a LOT about pain relief said that the GP should not have prescribed him such a high dose straight off. (He's on the highest.. 20mg released into his blood stream per hour.)

Does anyone have any experience of this? I don't like to think of him drugged up to the eyes balls, sick/dizzy etc all the time when you consider this going to be permanent as he has to change the patch every Saturday!

SJ, I think you should contact the doctor who prescribed them to ask for advice. They might want to change the dose for instance. Hope he is feeling better soon.

Yes I have just been on the site. \link{ www.emc.medicines.org.uk/emc/assets/c/html/displaydoc.asp?documentid=16787#INDICATIONS\BuTrans} It says that patients should be started on the LOWEST dose! DH has been given the highest!!

Yes, it is a bit strange that he hasn't been started on the lowest dose. Definitely one to refer back to the prescriber.
