Disgusted with doctors.

About a week ago DS was really poorly, he was wheezing and really having to gasp for breath. The doctor diagnosed a chest infection that had led to an asthmatic reaction. Since then despite medication he has not been himself, extremely listless and totally off his food and milk. This morning he developed a rash all over his torso, on going to the doctors, and the receptionist asking the doctor to see DS, I was told he was too busy and to call back that evening. The surgery was packed full of coffin dodgers, probally complaining about thier bunions and here I was with a sick child with an unexplained rash and he would not even see me for 2 minutes!
I took DS to NHS direct and a lovely nurse toroughly examined him and it just turned out to be a virus he had caught as his immune system is low after the chest infection.
I am totally disgusted with the doctors and am thinking about making an official complaint, I will certainally be changing sugeries.
Sorry to rant on, but I am furious.

I would complain to the practice manager. Couldn't they have seen him after surgery.

Yes, complain to the practice manager. This is plain wrong. Glad it was nothing more serious.

coppertop · 06/01/2006 14:24

At our GPs surgery they give priority to children. I one phoned the surgery at 3pm because I was worried about ds1 and was given an appointment for 20 minutes later.

I would write to the Practice Manager even if you are going to leave. I think he/she needs to know about this kind of thing happening.

My surgery is excellent where children are concerned. The HV will buzz through to the doctor if she wants assurance over any little thing. I think you should ask them for a complaints form, each surgery should have some of them.

Definitely complain. Kids are a priority at my GP surgery too, always seen within hours or less if anyone thinks its serious, and others have to wait.

agree with lockets, complain by all means, but don't question the genuineness (?) of other peoples' illnesses- my dad has bunions, but also diabetes, angina and high blood pressure. He often has to wait several days for an appointment.

change your doctors, ask some of your mum mates who has someone who is good and go there instead
