Heart beating really fast and hard/palpitations - wwyd?

The last week or so I have noticed that my heart goes through bursts of beating really hard and heavily - it feels like it's going to leap out of my chest. It's fast too. Anyone got any experience of this? My hands get all shaky as well. Can be when I'm cross or upset, or when I'm calm. Sometimes after I've had a drink, but not usually. It's horrible. Think I will ring the GP tomorrow but does anyone have any words of advice in the meantime?
Thanks.

I have this a fair bit and have done since my early 20s. I am now 38y. I have had various tests and scans, and have been in hospital with it in the past two.

However, all investigations have found no abnormalities.

Things that def make mine worse inc caffine, alcohol, tirdness, stress, etc. although it can appear to ahppen for no reason at all too.

I would go to the GP and get checked out, and let them run some tests if they suggest it.

I had similar symptoms for years before finally being diagnosed with SVT. It is very hard to diagnose since it doesn't always show up on ECG unless of course you are having an attack at that specific time.

Also get tested to see if you are currently anaemic. That can make you go shaky and have a fast heartbeat. If you are very tired (beyond what you'd expect) a lot of the time and pale, maybe losing your appetite, these would also be symptoms of anaemia.

At any rate, I would see your GP about it and they can check it out with whatever tests seem sensible.
