Anyone taken Serepax before?

The doctor prescribed me Serepax a couple of months ago (not an antidepressant, I don't think - more like anti-anxiety pills) because I was going through a rough time. I did feel a bit calmer on it, and it also helps you to sleep.

The thing is that since I finished the pack that he prescribed me a few days ago, I've been crying a lot and feeling quite down. I also didn't sleep very well last night at all, and today I felt depressed & unmotivated. Could this be a side effect of stopping the medication? I don't know how addictive they are, & I was also wondering whether these kinds of side effects also happen when you stop taking antidepressants. Does anyone know much about it? Thank you..

Sorry you are feeling so bad Lethal. According to my BNF withdrawal of a benzodiazedepine should be gradual because abrupt withdrawal may make the original symtoms much worse, like most anti D's or sleeping tablets, if you stop too suddenly.

The withdrawal effect may not also happen until three weeks after you took the last tablet

Here is a link how to come off benzodiazepines . There is a lot of info there, but you can click on relevant links. It sound like you have withdrawn too quickly, go and see your GP again.

Hope things get better soon.

Thank you Alibubbles, I had a look at the link on benzodiazepines - my goodness it's enough to put you off taking them in the first place, isn't it. They are great while you're on them, but I didn't realise how difficult it could be to come off them.

Luckily I wasn't taking them for too long, so hopefully these symptoms will only be short term... I might do what you suggested though & go back to see the gp.

Lethal, the main thing is you did feel better when taking them, so they have helped.

There is some discussions on anti d's on here that might help. Put Seroxat into the search box and you'll find lots of messages. Quite a few of us have been through what you have, so there will be lots of advice and support.
