so run down - is there any point in me speaking to GP?

I've got an 11 month old DD, her sleeping isn't awful but it's not brilliant either - usually up at least once in the night. (Loads last night as the poor wee thing has a molar and a canine coming in right next to each other). I also work full time, over four days but from home. Job is lovely, the nature of the work is cyclical - when it's a busy part of the cycle it is almost impossible to take time off. We're in a busy part right now. So I'm tired.
I've been feeling very run down and seem to just pick up everything. I've had a cold now for three weeks and I feel like it's just kind of fired up again - swollen, sore throat, headache, aching limbs. Very frustrating as I thought I was shaking it off. Have also got 'bald' patches on my tongue.
I go to bed early, drink lots of water, eat lots of fruit and veg, try to go for a walk every day to get some fresh air. But I still feel rubbish.
When I've brought it up with friends they keep recommending woo homeopathy, so I don't feel I've got any useful suggestions there. Is there any point in speaking to my GP? I think I'd feel like such a tit rocking up there and going 'I'm tired, I can't get rid of the cold'.

You should definitely see your GP and ask for blood tests to see whether you have any mineral deficiencies etc that could easily be remedied by diet, supplements or medication.

Blood tests. I often feel crap, and it's usually because I'm anaemic or have low iron stores - I tend to get heavy periods and it's amazing how crappy you can feel even if you're not anaemic, but your iron stores are low. Definitely go to the doc before you try any alternative stuff, because if you're eating right and getting enough exercise and sleep, there's probably something else going on and it's worth finding out what it is.

Just to let you know you're not the only one - I feel exactly the same as you. I have a 10 month old DS and I've basically had a cold since the end of August. It gets better for a few days then flares up again. I also have bald patches in my tongue (feels sore like when you burn your tongue). My dentist called it geographical tongue which can be brought on by stress or a deficiency of vitamin B. I haven't seen my GP about being constantly run down, I am still breastfeeding (although not at night anymore) and put a lot of it down to that possibly leaving me vitamin deficient, I'm rubbish at remembering to take vit pills. Are you breastfeeding too? Like you my DS is not too bad at night but has been teething which has led to some bad nights lately. He also seems to pick up a lot of colds from the various toddler groups we go to which he passes on to me. Sorry, I don't really have anything useful to add but will be watching with interest as I'm in in similar quandary to you (especially as I go back to work next week Sad)
I hope you feel better soon Smile

I am still breastfeeding, yes - I hadn't really thought about that contributing (how thick am I?). I've got a dentist appointment in a week or so so was going to ask about the tongue but maybe I will get an appointment with the GP next week. I'll let you know what they say in case it's useful...
