DH broken leg - what to expect

DH broke his leg at the end of last month. He had initial hospital appointments to get his cast on, and then they made one for next week whcih I hoped was to take it off. But it's only 5 weeks (to the day) that he broke it - is that completely unrealistic?
Also, when it is removed, will he be able to walk? How long until he can drive and function normally?
He broke the very bottom of his leg (but not ankle) and apparently it was a "good break" - no additional nastiness, other than a broken leg and presumably ligament damage.
(sorry if this sounds selfish, I start a new jobs soon and am relying on him being able to take DS to school etc)

sorry I have no experience of broken legs, but didn't want you sitting there all on your own.
Not much help eh??
I do know that DS2 broke his arm last summer and they removed the cast after 5 weeks and although it was a bit weak he was fine.4

His muscle will be a bit weaker, you lose strength pretty quickly.

But remember his body will be healing 24/7 so just see how it goes, maybe a vitamin c supplement and calcium.

will he be able to walk though? And is there a chance it will come off after 5 weeks or will it definitely be 6?
Thanks :)

My cousin had his cast off for a lower leg break at 6 weeks. He was still limping for a couple of days after that, I mean badly limping. But it got stronger very quickly.

Stuff starting your new job, we need him fit to look after the dcs on the night out!

I've never broken anything, I'm clueless.

StealthPolarBear · 24/11/2011 22:53

that will be fine i am sure Indith :) otherwise I'd be panicking. I can get the DCs to bed and hecan gett o them if he has to. Esp if not a school night. But I wouldn't want to go away for 3 nights leaving him having to do bath, bed, dress, ,and especially driving/walking to school!
