Very pale face and dark shadows ?

DD (age 6) that is.

I don't think she can be anaemic as she seems to have too much energy.
Could she be deficient in something, and would a GP do a blood test on the basis of her just looking ill?

(she is very skinny as well - and has been having problems sleeping)

If she's having problems sleeping then the pale face and dark shadows are probably just because she's tired rather than deficient in something.

My dd (5.8) has been looking pretty washed out too, she has just put on a huge growth spurt and so is quite skinny. I've just put it down to that and the time of the year, not enough sun!

Hope your dd is just suffering from the same.

Enid · 05/01/2006 13:25

yes I have one too (also 6)

tired and a bit sickening for something

she is also skinny

Lucycat · 05/01/2006 13:26

Should add that my dd also eats like a horse!! not hay just a lot.......

polly28 · 05/01/2006 13:27

yes my dd 14yrs has lost weight recently due to growth and virus, looks tired ,great bags under her eyes,pale....roll on summer!

unicorn · 05/01/2006 13:28

must be a growth thing.

Just wished she looked healthier, more solid iykwim (like some of her classmates)

She seems so fragile.

What sort of problems sleeping, unicorn? DD2 used to get overtired and then sleep really badly, so was still tired next morning and overtired again at bedtime etc etc. I used to "encourage" (ie suggest but end up ordering ) her to have an afternoon nap at the weekend and that helped a lot.

Some children just do look like this in the winter though - if she doesn't seem ill I would guess your DD is basically OK (maybe extra Vit D would help?)

unicorn · 05/01/2006 13:36

I had a thread about her telling me she was overloaded at bedtime - she can't shut off, close down, relax or whatever.

If I am there stroking her head forever, she will eventually go to sleep, but stragely I don't want to do that!!

She is very sensitive (see another thread about her friend)so things really upset her, and she can't shake them easily.

All in all I guess I am worried about her mental and physical health.

Dark under the eyes is often a sign of food intolerence (when it isn't caused by fatigue)

Enid · 05/01/2006 13:38

ah bless

dd1 is massively sensitive too

doesn't have any probs sleeping though but does a lot of physical exercise

maybe it is a skinny and tall thing?

Polgara2 · 05/01/2006 14:14

DD1 is like this often, mainly winter. Last year I was convinced she was anaemic, took her to doctors got her blood tested. Hmmph came back that she had too much iron!!! Turns out the vitamin tablets I was giving her coupled with her very good diet had enhanced her iron absorption . Can't win - now am just trying not to look too hard so I cant worry.

unicorn · 05/01/2006 14:30

blimey.. didn't think you could have too much iron (didn't think the body stored it?)

she does have vitamin pills, and her diet is really quite good.. hmm.

she is skinny but not particularly tall.

May just go and get her weighed, measured, general mot at the Doctors.. seeing as they don't have school nurses doing health checks any more.

How do you check for food intolerances, is that a specialist thing? Can't see our GP having time to 'waste' on that!
