Hi tonight my 2 and half yr old was dancing away and went into a forward roll but her hand was in a funny position and when she went over it made the most enormous bone crunch sound and she started screaming it was horrible, i was videoing her so caught it on video Shock she has calmed down and is moving her hand etc that was about an hour ago she has now fell asleep so i'm not sure does anyone think she has done damage or should i be making my way to casualty with her? i feel like an idiot for not knowing, she says her hand is sore but she wasn't in a lot of pain ifykwim, my dp is not due home til 9.30 i dont have anyone i can ask.

If she's comfortably asleep I'd be tempted to leave her be for now, see how she is in the morning. Smile

Is there any obvious swelling or bruising? I'm no expert but would think there would be if it was broken.

I remember my brother doing a huge, crunchy thing with his foot when he was little. It wasn't broken and the dr told my mum that small children break things less often as their bones are softer but I don't know if that's true or not!

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/11/2011 21:17

If she can move her hand without screaming, and it doesn't look swollen and painful, I'd guess it's not broken, so no need for A&E tonight. See how it is in the morning.

thanks i keep checking but it doesn't look swollen or bruised, ive heard before about the bones being softer so hoping its ok if i could upload the video you would understand the noise is awful! shes soundly asleep so i will wait till morning and see how it is, i will post back how i get on thanks for replies x

Could you pop along to the walk in clinic tomorrow?

topknob · 22/11/2011 21:28

Have to add, sorry but when ds2 broke his wrist I had him lifting it in the air and all sorts before dh said it was broken, you could clearly feel a break between the bones. I would suggest GP in the morning to check x

TheSkiingGardener · 22/11/2011 21:30

The bones are softer and joints can do all sorts of contortions and noises without breaking ( ski instructor, have seen, and heard, some wierd falls).

Make sure she has full movement in the morning and watch for very specific areas of black bruising. If you are worried about an area gently feel it and see if it feels solid or not (you'll know what I mean if you feel it).

At the end of the day though, the only way to tell if something is broken is an x-ray so if you are at all concerned that something isn't right then it's a trip to minor injuries or A&E.

Hope she's fine.

if she's sleeping, don't wake her. Just keep an eye on it for swelling and check she isn't restless/distressed. otherwise it can probably wait until morning but if its still sore then i would get it checked out.

Pinkbump3 · 22/11/2011 21:36

Really? oh dear i hope shes ok i will feel really guilty if it is and i have done nothing. i will maybe just take her for a check up anyway thanks x
