Is long 'vellus' hair normal near 4 year old DD's 'front bottom'.

Since DD had a UTi I've been paying a bit more attention to that area for cleaning, sign of infection etc. We have appointment in a few weeks, but I've googled and scared myself now! It's a small amount of blonde, but pigmented at the end hairs close but not on her labia. They are soft and downy, but really long (almost 2cm). They are a bit noticeable. I'm very hairy and all the women in our family are. She's always had noticeable blonde hair on her labia and has hairy legs etc. Last week she had some discharge but we now think that is from her bottom - which was surgically created as she had IA. Not so worried about that now - but I am about this hair. I know I should just wait for our appointment and stop worrying, but I'm really worried it might be something troublesome. We have already been through allot with her and now that's finally making some progress, the thought of more problems horrifies me. If anyone out there can reassure me that it's normal I would feel lots better.

I really don't know, but if she had a skin graft as part of her surgery, then maybe it's something to do with that? I think if you're not sure it really would be best to ask your GP - they can always do blood tests to check hormone levels and stuff. Hope that helps a little!

DS1 had long vellus hair on his testicles from birth. I worried that it was a hormonal problem, but never took him to the doctors about it. He is now a strapping 17 year old, with no hormonal problems whatsoever. Like DH, he is pretty hairy, but within the norms for his age.

Hopefully the same will be true of your DD.
