Breast clinic appointment, any words of reassurance?

Have an appointment this week after finding lump. Am very nervous. Lots of 'I should have noticed this earlier' thoughts. Don't really want to tell anyone in RL, as I don't want them worrying.

Good luck. The wall of our clinic has a poster that says 96% of all lumps are not sinister. Hopefully yours will fall into that percentage too, mine did.

Good luck. As hellhasnofury has already said, the vast majority of lumps turn out to be nothing. Far better to get it investigated and turn out to be nothing than not bother and it be something sinister.

I'm 38 and have had 3 breast clinic referrals and each one has turned out to be nothing to worry about. The odds are in your favour that yours is too.

Thanks, you've made me feel a bit better! The speed of referral from doctors to the hospital clinic, probably done to reduce worrying time, actually makes me more nervous that they think it's something serious!

I'm pretty sure there's a two week rule for breast lumps, try not to let the speed of the referral scare you it's normal.

they are always speedy in referals -it's standard,so don't read anything into it..why not nip over to the tamoxifen thread for some hand holding - we've all been there and can advise and offer comfort...

here it is !

Is it a 'one stop' clinic? If so you will get some info straight away. The chances are [over 90%] that the lump is benign. They usually do a triple test- a mammogram,an ultrasound and a fine needle aspiration[taking fluid out-it doesnt hurt].After that they should be able to tell you if you need more tests. If you do that still doesnt mean its cancer-it probably isnt but the waiting is the worst bit.As MAS said go over to Tamoxifen Thread where you'll find lots of support.Good Luck.
