Really heavy period - 10m after birth of big baby. Is this normal?

Baby #3 born in January. Very big baby (12lbs+) and have been BFing so periods have only just come back. 1st one (last month) was heavyish, but normal heavy for me.

2nd one (currently) is really heavy. I'm used to using 'medium' and 'super' tampons, but was bleeding through the medium ones in under two hours today, so went out to buy 'super plus' but they seem to still be leaking, so am wearing a towel (:( yuck :() as well. When I cough, I feel it trickling out as if the tampon just isn't big enough.

Do you think this is just now my 'normal' period after 3 big babies? Is there anything I can do?

:( Blush :(

The first few periods after not having one for a while due to bfing are usually always awful, no matter what size your baby. My periods returned after 10 months of bfing dd1 and it was hell, just as you describe, was very very heavy, I was wearing 3 towels stuck together side by side, was also extremely painful. After a few months it all settled down again to my usual heavy periods but nothing like the blood baths I'd had the first few months of it being back.

With the last two my periods returned earlier (when they were 3-4 months) and they were nowhere near as heavy. I think when you haven't had a period in a while your body goes into overdrive for a while when they start up again.

If the bleeding is so heavy that it's making you feel ill you can ask your GP for something to stop it, I can't remember what it's called ('something' acid maybe?)

Thanks Rikalaily I do hope you're right. I've just had to change the 'super plus' (for "super plus" read "fucking massive" :() after just 2 hrs :(

Your description of it as a 'blood bath' sadly rings too true.

If it doesn't calm down in the next day or two, I'll try and see a GP like you say.
